Germnination Malfunction!

Hey!

About 3 days ago I decided to germinate some seeds. So I grabbed six of my seeds and put them in a moist cotton towel which I put in a airtight plastic bag.

Facts!

  • Temperature inside the bag is ranging from 71F to 75F
  • Seeds look more "meaty" now after 3 days of so called "germination"
  • Nothing has sprouted from the seeds:sad:
  • The seeds are kept in a dark place
  • What the fuck is happening?
So I decided to change my germination techniques. I took two plates, and placed the six seeds on top of a wet(tish) toilet paper (Two ply). I also added 3 more seeds. Then I covered the seeds with another toilet paper (also two ply).

A normal germination time period ranges from 1-5 days from what I've heard, but also that the seeds "should germinate within 24:arrow:72 HRS". In my case nothing has happened.

Yes, I am a complete newb when it comes to growing :leaf:Marijuana:leaf:, actually this is my first crop attempt.

So can someone fill out some missing spaces about shit that I might have missed?

I think thats too low temps, I have a great success rate germinating seeds at about 30 degree celsius

most of my seeds pop up in the first 24 hours

2 things:
1 put them on a heat source I prefer using a tupperware container rather than the plates and putting those on top of my monitor, heating mat (not blanket), or some other warm place- this seems to speed up the process

2 you might try scuffing or cracking the seeds to do this I put them in either a matchbox and shake quickly back and forth a few times- you can also take emory board (nail file) and scuff them. To crack them I hold them in my fingers (lengthwise) and give a lil pinch...not smashing them just trying to crack the sides a lil.

just put on the top of the PC case, over the power supply, put in some kind of box, closed, but not totally sealed, you should leave a few millimeters of open to ventilate

put two paper napkins on bottom, then seeds, then 2 napkins on top, seal the box with some tin foil (to make it dark inside), put some water (distiled if you have), place that box on the top of the pc and if your seeds are good they are bound to crack in a day or so

check every few hours, and take care to keep the whole thing moist, if it dries out your seedlings might die

i left a container in my cupboard with 3 seeds in after about a week cos i thought they were fucked!

Did some more, they went fine, all growing and that. 2 weeks later discover the old container! The roots were HUGE on all of them and all brown and dead!!!

bit of a dickhead but they were free seeds and I have 3 doing nicely anyway! Just thought id share that with every1...

i soak seeds in water for 24 hrs keep em warm then olant em, use a paper towel or anything and you risk damaging the roots either the taproots little microscopic hairs stick to the ptowel and when you pick it up they rip and damage is done or your greasy little fingers damage it. soak em and plant em and keep em warm ther is no reason to pre germ in a towel all it does is make somthing simple hard

If your at your wits end try making sure the ph is a good 5.5 to 6, not over 6 tho. Make sure the heat is 85 max but not to far below it. Also don't use toilet paper because some brands don't work too well, I suggest papertowel because it is airier and has more structure. Use tupperware or the plate idea, but it can take up to 2 weeks to germinate a seed. Most likely tho the toilet paper is breaking down with the water making a paper slush that doesnt allow air to reach the seed.

Sry to double post but I didnt read this post, you could also try this technique because if you have tempermental seeds, some will die because of the hairs being destroyed. Altho because you are having issues I'd suggest my past post so you can know yourself that youi can infact crack a seed.

Well, I found out what my mistake was! I had the seeds COMPLETELY sealed off from any ventilation at all. Now when I put them in the paper towels and 3 new seeds also. After 12 hrs they have started cracking. Thanks a lot for helping me! SOLVED!
