Full sun or partial sun

I’m in north central Texas and it does get hot on occasion during the summer. My question is, will I be better off planting in full direct sunlight or in a partially shaded scenario? I’m assuming there must be a trade off in extreme heat. Is there any special care needed to protect the plants in the heat? Avg first frost is 1st week of November.

id err on the side of caution, use shade, it's hella bright n hot in texas, the young plants might suffer badly, a long as a plant (adult) gets 5 hrs of direct sunlight a day, a plant will grow to full maturaty and good size :weed:

find out when peak UV happens in your area. i let my plants get full morning light until around 1pm then move them under some shade if needed, some strains don't care about it

Thank you both. I had a plant a friend ga e me, started from seed inside and i transplanted outside to a small pot at about 6 weeks on May 29. My plan was to transfer it to a large tub and keep it outside to avoid the A/C vs light dilemma (old school no led). After about 2 more weeks (June 12) it was looking bad, overwatered, media was trash and the roots were probably baking. We went from above average rain and below avg temps to dry and hot. So… I put it in the ground around some trees, and it’s recuperated but I’m afraid it’s stunted and/or about to herm. I’ve attached pictures from
1.5/29 at 6weeks
2.6/12 at 8 weeks
3.7/17 at 12 weeks
4.7/20 pre flowers
5-8(4) 8/11
Plant is 32” tall
I’ve got about 10 weeks safe from frost to possibly 12 or so or mid October as unpredictable as the weather has been for it to finish.
1. Approximately how much more stretch can I expect?
2. Do yall see any signs of it going male?
3. Sunlight is partial shade to full sun
4. I’ve been giving it N once a week, should I increase or start on flowering nutes?
I’m trying to have an outdoor plan for next year and also get a contingency plan for this year in case there’s any chance I can move it in
Sorry this is so long but it’s a miracle this one is still alive. Lol

I and my friends plant directly in the ground, though. The best way to grow in the heat is to keep the root zone cool, which is more difficult in containers.
Yes sir and thank you . I ended up ditching the pots and going in ground. I posted some pictures and a long explanation I’d appreciate it if you’d take a look.

Thank you My plan was a large mineral bucket outside I could move around but everything got hot so went in the ground. I posted some pics in a reply if you wouldn’t mind taking a look and giving me an opinion I’d appreciate it. Thanks

I like your attitude. I prefer the side of caution and hopefully this one gets there. I posted some pics if you wouldn’t mind looking if appreciate any advice. Thank you

high, i can't quite make out the flowers in the later pix, it looks like there might be or might not be some male flowers coming along, keep a close eye on it,
i think streach is over for the most part
figure on starting flowering nutes, keep an eye on lower leaves, if they start to yellow at all, give a grow feed, whhen flowering weed, you give it grow nutes during the initial 12/12 streach period , about 2 weeks, then flowering nutes and another grow feed during flowering, again, keep an eye on those lower leaves.

sorry, got distracted, if your growing in the ground, you can skip the growth food, there should be enough in the soil, when feeding, don't feed once a week f you start seeing signs of tip burn, theres nutrients n the ground, but as your under a tree, you might want to feed flowering nutes ocasionaly. just watch for burnt tips.

Thank you. Just for clarification..Sept 26 is equal day and equal night if I’m reading the information correctly … sunrise at 7:12am , sunset at 7:12 pm. So does 12/12 stretch start at that time or am I missing something?

Your plant looks fine to me! Cannabis plants are pretty tough, more people seem to kill them with kindness than neglect. Put some mulch around the base of the plant, about 4 to 6 inches deep and just water when you see a little droop. Or just just stick your finger in the dirt and water when the top inch or so is dry. Maybe clean up the bottom 6 inches or so for air flow, you will be fine!

Do you have any prediction on time to finish based on the pictures?

Not an outdoors guy here but I did it once upon a time. Not saying TX isnt different but I regret not having full sun. 21g harvest with 4 plants and someone on this forum showed me thier pheno same strain full sun.. Was ten times bigger. We only got 4 hrs of light per morning really then shade rest of day.

I’m getting some sun , full and partial all day. Full direct sun is pretty hot here. I’ll try some next year but also have some shaded for back up. I think if I hadn’t had to transfer this 3 times it would’ve been bigger
