what would give higher quality Bud? I’ve always flowered under 1000w Ushio HPS and it did well. Would the HLG light be better quality? I can’t run 1000w where I’m at now so planning on 600w Ushio HPS

Short answer: No.

If you're used to running plants under HPS, then LED is going to be a bit different. You have to make adjustments and compensations from one to the other. LEDs are more efficient and save some money on the electricity bill....but you can also save on electrical costs by using the oven less...or running the dryer less. Plants don't see efficiency. They see photons.

Some people say that the HPS spectrum is not "ideal".....but I've seen and had great results from using HPS. Some plants might even prefer the HPS spectrum. I think it really boils down to the genetic material. If you're working with good genetic starting material then I think you'll get good results, regardless of the lights -as long as the lights you use are ones that you know how to use.

I prefer the growth from hps/mh but I get better yeilds with led even though I feel they lack something hid has, plants love and worship hid thats clear but ime plants can be a little awkward around led, it's been suggested that its temp related but even in summer my plants don't jam with led like they do with hid.

I've run HPS/MH since 1996 and they worked well and eventually I didn't have to even think about it. But LED is different and you have to learn again how to maximize your yield under them. I kept my HID hoods and even bulbs in case but I won't be going back and I've since bought more HLG Scorpion Diablo Xs. My plants LOVE that light but I had to close my grow and tightly control my other environmental properties and now my pot is better then under HID. But it's a journey like most things.

Here's today on my table. This is a test of a new cross RP Kosher Kush x GG#4 and testing the RP KK F3 seeds.

if your switching from hps to leds id suggest getting a proper light meter to measure the ppfd and follow a chart itll make the switch easier wont have to guess if the plants are getting the right amount of light. i used to use 600 watt hps and i really like my hlg scorpion diablo lights it crushes my old hps lights.

Oh yes a light meter changes everything, good point.

Also know many strains/phenos like everything is different needs and just because it did good under hps or dif zones def does t mean it will be okay led. When i swit hed i blamed the leds, than pnce i did a few rounds and figured out like any environmental dif , some love and some suck under different things. So my suggestion is don’t assume and trial diff pheno to see what likes leds
