Biscotti & Gorilla Zkittlez, DWC

Hi everyone!

On this occasion I have some new strains from Barney's Farm I haven't grown yet. Expecting lots from the Biscotti!

Setup

Tents:
80*80cm veg tent (convective air circulation)

90*90cm blooming tent with 220m²/h exhaust

Lights:
Veg, 100W Viparspectra P1000

Flowering, 400W Lumen King (80*80cm), driven maximum of 320W/ 1100PPFD at 20cm distance

+Under canopy bloom 26W

Nutrients:
Terra aquatica Flora + Fulvic, maybe Rhino skin later

Bubblers:
Air pumps 2* ~400L/h
4*15cm flat airstones

20/15L buckets

A couple days have gone since I put the seeds to germinate. Biscotti opened well and was put to DWC within a root-it cube, nutrients 5-5-5. Gorilla seed was really dark and didn't pop properly, just a small beginning of a tail so I can't even file it open. Decided to put it in soil and give it away if it germinates later. Too bad, I only have three of these Gorilla Zkittlez.

The season Here in Finland is quite good for growing now although there might be some humidity issues later at fall. Vegging tent is in bathroom, no issues there but a slightly higher temperature of the reservoir. The flowering tent is in the living room where I sleep, lots of CO2 and a good circulation of fresh air too. I'm so lucky to have an apartment to the west in the middle of the building, stays really cool. Yesterday it was 34c at 16:00 outside, but my flat had only 24c!

Feel welcome to join! Happy growing people!

Gorilla Z germinated and planted. A minor error happened...I put the new seed to the same wet paper to germinate and it got a bit slimy. So... I broke one of the leaves while taking off the helmet but I think it will be okay anyways.
These will have 6-7 weeks time to veg in the smaller tent since the flowering tent is in use until harvest and drying of the runtz muffins is done. Tent is in bathroom where ambient temp is a tidy bit high, about 26c. Gotta exchange water more frequently and also wash the buckets thoroughly every three weeks. Recent grows have had healthy root systems, excluding one plant with poor genetics and a broken airpump.

...Damn, Gorilla Zkittlez has a real struggle. Now it hadn't pushed it's taproot into the root-it cube well enough and some of the root was exposed to light. It withered a little thin and lost all its hair. I covered it with pebbles to protect the bare root and started giving kelp spray for first aid. Following days will show if the damage was too much, but at this point I'm still optimistic. Only one seed left of the gorilla... Biscotti doing fine, slow but steady. Need a fan there ASAP

Slowly but steady. Some flaking of micro nutrients in the buckets. Roots just fine. Gorilla seems to have no rush whatsoever.

Youngsters got a reservoir change at the veg tent. Topped Biscotti. Roots were doing somewhat poorly, a hint of yellowing had appeared - the water temp high as 26-27°c, and wont come much down with the 19/5 rhythm. I don't have a freezer atm so cant add anything cool enough to the buckets. Neither do I want to throw 4 days old solution to sewer in order to drop the temps.

Gorilla Zkittlez is still having problems to begin growing...but I'm sure it'll perk up soon although it's gonna be left behind from the Biscotti that's triple the size at this point.

Light is at 75%, 14", 21K lux.

Living room ambient temp is about 24°c, while the bathroom (veg room) goes up to 28°c - There is a central heating battery that can't be turned off. Not the ideal DWC room, quite horrible in fact. No choice if I want to do this perpetual cycle.

A few days and I'll get my pension, gonna invest some 200€ to new equipment to make this summer grow work out.

If you can't get water temps down, how about adding beneficial bacteria or using a chemical (hydrogen peroxide) to run "sterile"?

Hydrogen peroxide is a possibility that I might take. I don't like to use it but these temperatures are clinging tight for now. I'll keep an eye on the roots...

Small update. Biscotti is growing well, the topping came close to FIM. Soon she'll go under LST. Gorilla Z not so good - 10-10-5 was too strong solution for her damaged roots. Leaf clawing. Also a little light stress... She's gonna be a bonsai in comparison. Oh well

Humidifier timed. Fan installed. Rhino skin added.

Biscotti grows ok, gorilla opening lower shoots, slowly. Light at ~22K lux.

Temperature has come down a lot, ambient heat is less than 24°c so the roots should start to repair soon.

Taking a dump and peeking the plants from the potty. A morning ritual of mine, heheh

Gorilla is good now, starting to build more than just stem. Biscotti got already the second LST binding with minor supercropping, and chiropractics for the thinner middle branches that are pushing good. Haven't checked the water much..ph quite stable. Gonna bump up the feed for Biscotti in a few days. Light raised a few centimeters and put to 100%, did not measure output. At this point, this small 100W Viparspectra can't give too much anymore.

Pictures are from same distance for size comparison.

Starting to look like a plant

Two very strong lower branches that will require another topping in the following weeks, one seen in front.

Couple days ago I installed trellis net for better lateral control. Biscotti taking all the area. Gorilla Z went in to the shame corner. VPD is a bit bouncy, 0.6-1.15 but they're doing seemingly well. Ph dropping as expected, from 5.9 to 5.5 in 5 days.

Doing fine, a big defoliation coming up. Gorilla Z is fighting back with the total area of the tent. Root systems good with both plants. Tonight, water exchange for both buckets - Biscotti is already showing early signs of water toxicity - drooping a bit, a little hardy and dark green on the upper older canopy. I don't mind, she's way too big comparing to Gorilla Z. My rare begonias are gonna love the early veg leftover solution. It has the perfect balance for them!

I did a defoliation and control adjustments, filled the reservoirs. Could have done defol sooner for Biscotti - but now I got plenty of robust clones from her. Pals are gonna love it, she will go around the city. Gorilla Z got merely removed a few inner fan leaves and some tucking, biomass wasn't enough for more. I gotta make her pop in about two weeks so a few more days of branching is in place for it to happen. Nutrients per 10L in buckets are at the moment about 17-11-6 with silicate and fulvic acid.

Jylhävuori is pleased with these bitches. Easy to manipulate. Even my lazy ass with lateral control wasn't an issue

Well well well... :dunce:

Humidifier wasn't waterproofed in any way lol. I cleaned it from plague with a brush...

Fuse was ok, it went short-circuit...damn. I'm so proud of myself right now

Well, I can manage a week without. It's a few weeks vegetative pause coming...maybe it'll wake up after it's dried.
