Dry Ice??

I was reading a Cervantes book and come across a section on CO2. He mentions Dry ice as an inexpensive means of CO2 increase. I was thinking a styrofoam cooler and with tiny holes in the lid. I'm finding that the yeast/sugar method as messy and short lived. A few pounds of dry ice in a cooler would potentially last 10 days or so....that stuff sublimates fairly slowly

Just wonderin if anyone has tried it or would join me in investigating this. I plan of trying it out this week....Let you know how it goes.

I use it all the time, a few pounds will not last 10 days, but even still its worth it. From what I've seen, it is better than using tanks, and I have several tanks, but still prefer the dryice.
I think this has alot to do with the temp being so low with the dryice.
The plants seem to love the cold blast of co2 and frost up nicely.

You need to price shop for it though, as the price can vary greatly.

I use 50lb blocks, with fans placed in front of it, blowing right under my light and than falling onto my babies. This works best for me.

Good lookin out videoman. Do you use a styrofoam cooler or something with that?? And are you blowing the gas toward the plants or in an upward direction. I think there is 3 or 4 places around here that carry it, I'm going to start looking tomorrow.

Thanks again.

jaymoney151, I use to use a styrofoam ice chest, just as you mentioned. Now I only use it to store the dryice in nightly, as its warm here, and I need the cooling effect that dryice affords me.

Heres a picture, its not very good though, because as I took it, the fan slipped out of place, but you'll get the idea.

I use dry ice every day. I use 4lbs a day it takes about 6 hours to melt. In a cooler 10 lbs only lasts 1 day. I think dry ice melts at about -10 degrees so it is pretty hard to keep for any lenth of time. If you keep it in your freezer it will still melt and the guy who i buy my dry ice from says it will damage the freezer.

True, tanks are best in the long run. Im working on getting a tank and regulator for my next grow.

Yeah, I dont agree with that at all. Tanks may be cheaper, and easier to control, but I defenitely see better results from the dryice.

video, why do you like ice the most, the temp control issue? and what does a block of ice run you as pictured.

Maybe i was not clear. I also agree you get better results from dry ice. But tanks are cheaper and you can controll co2 output. I go to the dry ice shop every day during lunch then rush home to put it in my grow room then rush back to work. Maybe the middle ground is best, tanks set up with a dry ice treat a couple times a week. Much respect to you videoman.

i can store gas in tanks for years, i cant even get close to the temps needed to sustain solid co2. i supply 200+ lbs of co2 a week. i buy tanks weekly, as the summer progresses demand will increase. if we had to do this with solid co2 we would need a box truck just for logistics
