Fungus gnat experiment #569

First harvest zero bugs in root zoome BIG difference. Smells normal no gunky water trapped in plastic pot root bound rootballs. Much whiter. The bag clearly kept it humid enough to help with the hectic conditions 34-40rh and box fan on second setting. Fed 12x a day or it will go to shit.

I've been reading a lot positive reviews about nematodes and seen encouraging macro video, they're not terribly expensive.
Enough to treat 15m³ £10 + postage.

With due research I'm sure you'll find them worth a try,
I've read nematodes can drown so check that out too if you're running dwc/aero etc.
I just ordered Nematodes yesterday from Amazon. I paid for overnight but 5 days is what its ended up being. Fkg Amazon. I researched and it appears that they should be viable. I have a real microscope to check. Theyre flying around here already so i wanna clobber em before they do any harm. Apparantly, Amazon doesnt sell gnatrol in less than a 5 gallon container at aalmost $600. I will keep everyone here updated on their effectiveness. My wife has houseplants suffering even if i havent had more in my weed. I think its cool how they work.

How did your nematodes workout?

Nice one mate, I'm glad you got them beaten, your determination paid off in the end.

I just saw these on another forum, and thought that they might interest some people in this thread. It’s a grow bag with a “built in” fabric mesh and closure at the top. Check the website for a better picture and explanation. I haven’t used them, but they look promising for gnat prevention.

I remember being a novice and getting fungus knats. So long ago since Ive seen that one and only minor pest. My solution was to cover top soil later with washed stones to suffocate them and then hanging fly paper up by the light to catch survivors as it was too late to spray chemicals in flower. Now I just make sure to spray plants down with Trifecta mid veg, then again just before flipping to flower. Leaves a nice mediciny soapy scent that disapates in a couple days.

Sorry for the delay. Ive been waiting to see long term results. I believe that the nematodes work. For a few weeks i saw none. Then this week, ive seen a couple in the growroom, but the plants are doing well enough. The big 1 is 2ish weeks from harvest and although i burned the tops, the bottoms are very healthy. The smaller plants are finally big enough to start bottom watering. The only issue i see using the nematodes is them running out of food and dying off. I bet that outside plants would really benefit as there would be new larval gnats every so often to keep the nematodes from dying off. So, yes they work but there are so many gnats around here that reapplication once a month would be necessary and they only stay viable for a month in the fridge. I will probably buy some gnatrol for next time but these do work. Theyre just a little too efficient and dont last long enough when food runs out.
