sativa question

I’m growing pure sativas for the first time with a golden tiger and a kali mist.

I’m now 6 weeks into flower, and have a general question.

I’m aware sativas take much longer, but my question is do they generally take longer to develop buds or just longer to finish?

I’m asking because at 6 weeks the golden tiger buds are enormous, much bigger than a hybrid Im growing with them, but the kali mist is still popcorn land even though its a much bigger plant.

Both look very healthy.

Just trying to figure out if I should be super excited about the golden tiger or disappointed with the kali mist.

nice to have RIU back.

if you got pics that will help...js

also if those are true sativas, they're go time is usually 10 to 12 weeks to finish sometimes they will go longer....js

This is mostly strain/genetic dependent, with a small part in environmental conditions.
Sativa generally takes longer to initiate the flower process under the same light cycle as Indica or hybrids. Afterwards they also generally take longer to complete the flowering process, growing less dense buds with long 'foxtails'. This is just in general and still mostly strain/genetic dependent.

This is what Im looking at. The GT is in the front and kali mist is the back. Im not looking for tips or anything. Both plants are doing fine, but if this helps I always appreciate a take. I’ve been wanting to grow that kali mist since I tried it in Amsterdam like 25 years ago. I’d be bummed if that plant only winds up producing a few ounces. Kind of hoping its just a late bloomer.

very nice, and from the looks of them they are just getting started, the one in the back is gonna grow up some more, the one in the front as well.

nice work....

Thanks, and love to hear that take. If these have a long way to go still I may get full blown coke can buds on that Golden Tiger.

Looking good, love GT. You didn't say what your light schedule is but I always run my Sativas on 11/13. Helps with the flowering time and in fact Ace recommends it on a lot of their varieties.

They’re running 12/12 now. I’ve got a hybrid strain in that room too that I want to keep on 12/12, but I plan to drop to 11/13 as soon as that ones chopped.

Really looking forward to the GT too.

I love ace’s black box warning

“Extreme effect of psychedelic sativa: dense, stimulant and very long lasting. It may be devastating for beginners. Recommended only for the harder and most experienced sativa users.”

I texted that description to one of my lightly consuming friends and he texted back

JFC why???

Suggests to me I’m on the right track with strain selection.

I have grown both the regular GT and the Thai leaning one; all great. However Mrs. Beer and my favorite strain is straight Malawi; it is devastating and that black box warning applies. Another thing I love about Malawi is how easy it is to trim; mostly just use my fingers to pop off the few leaves and none of that stringy thing that a lot of the gurls have.

Here is Malawi from my last grow at Christmas time.

wow nice plant. looks like an elephants dildo.

I’ve got a free pack of malawi x panama. May do those at some point. Whats your take on the GT high?

I think the GT high is very pleasant. You have the euphoric Thai and the narcotic Malawi in a very tasty berry incense liver meat thing. We really like the Malawi combos, I recommend Guawi. My very heavy smoker friend said the first time he tried it he forgot his name LOL. GT makes you cool with mowing the lawn or vacuuming and listening to your fav music.

Every time I see a plant with a top like that I swear I hear the theme from 2001 a space Odyssey playing
