I've been worried about a lucky drone strike on a ship. Hadn't thought to worry about this. But when the shooting starts. . . .
Russia and Ukraine both lost a lot of planes to friendly fire the first few days of the war. Everyone is jumpy when it's new. Our Navy guys have had a few months of sporadic drone warfare. While they are not having to shoot down drones everyday, they do it often enough that it's normal behavior to bust off a rocket or two. With it just costing us money and pride, we got off lucky.Nothing new & only going to get a lot worse
Above all,I'm glad the pilot and weapons op. survived and relatively unscathed, someone in the CIC on the Aegis cruiser errored or IFF malfunctioned, big investigation sure to follow.Russia and Ukraine both lost a lot of planes to friendly fire the first few days of the war. Agree. I wondered about the IFF myself.Above all,I'm glad the pilot and weapons op. survived and relatively unscathed, someone in the CIC on the Aegis cruiser errored or IFF malfunctioned, big investigation sure to follow.
Myself also, the sight of a USN ship bellowing smoke in the Red Sea along w/the requisite the images of crazed Houthis doing the "Allah Akbar" thing is truly nauseating, like there is not enough WTF issues on our plate currently.

Yep. As long as we were able to shoot down all the drones they were sending, I think it was a mistake to engage them. Us blowing up their tents will make them more popular with the locals.Myself also, the sight of a USN ship bellowing smoke in the Red Sea along w/the requisite the images of crazed Houthis doing the "Allah Akbar" thing is truly nauseating, like there is not enough WTF issues on our plate currently.
I'll give the Houthi's this, their resilient, they took on the US equipped Saudis and UAE air forces and despite all the the modern shit they faced managed to outlast/stalemate until the Saudis tired, probably also an indictment of poor training as well, and at the time the Houthi attack on the Saudi oil refineries was pretty shocking. Of all the Iranian's proxies they've faired the best and had the most impact, they've taken hits from the US,UK,and Israelis and remain plucky.Yep.
