SIP thread -- (Sub-Irrigated Planter)

What’s up everyone? I’m in the process of making sips. Do I need a bunch of aeration holes like the little ones I’m drilling in the picture ? I made one just like this with net cups and pvc and it came out great for an outdoor papaya (papaya fruit ) seedling
Probably don't "need" them, but they're not a bad idea. Roots end up growing through them, for what it's worth.

The important hole (ahem) is the one that drains from above the fill line so you don't accidentally oversaturate your medium.

Not mandatory, but they help oxygenate the root zone at the bottom of the pot
Thanks guys, gonna go ahead and copy them. Never seen a potted plant of mine grow as well as when I used my first sip
