Does cutting of small branches every day harm my plants?

Hey. I’m out of weed atm, and I have a couple plants that’s soon 4 weeks in to flowering. For the last days I have cut of small branches at the lower levels of these plants, drying them in the oven at low heat and smoking it. Not really a good smoke, but it does what I need it to - help me sleep.
My question though is, does this stagnate the growths of these plants? Or harm them?
Since I’m doing it every day I’m worried it will stress them.
Appreciate your inputs on this!

They look OK to me :P

Plants have evolved to lose leaves and branches, and in some types of plants it stimulates growth.

yes it will stress your plants, It might not be stressed the first day or the second day but eventually she will suffer.
And every time you cut a branch you take energy out from bud development,
I would suggest to take what you need at once and then back off.

This is no different than lollipopping and instead of the plant spending energy on lesser buds it will concentrate on the remaining tops.

There's 2 sides of that coin. It might not use energy to grow the lesser buds by removing them, but it's gonna take energy to heal the wounds of the removed branches.

Not if you take them off early enough ;)

This is an extreme example of a Maui Wowie, quadlined and pinched off all lower branches/bud sites right up to a week after flip to 12/12.

She has been growing 3" per day and required some "training" to keep her under control....

At 47" tall I installed three bamboo stakes and a wire hoop at ~ 30", super cropped and tied her to the wire hoop.

This pulled her down to 38". The three tallest tops grew ~ 10" along the wire and +6" vertically. At that point I used string to pull them down into the center. And left the rest of the tops alone as stretch has slowed to an inch per day.

Even as you suggest it takes energy to heal the wounds I would rather have nothing but large top colas and zero popcorn buds !

Day 20 of 61 MW before 16 Nov.jpg

Day 20 of 61 MW after 16 Nov.jpg

Day 25 of 66 MW draw 21 Nov.jpg

Yes I agree. Timing is important, but to remove all thru flower, might not be a good idea. Strain and pheno dependent of course.

Agreed...

At some point the lower bud sites will become part of a full cola !

I would suggest anything lower than half of the plant will not produce much.

Depending on the strain though, on shorter plants I've left them alone and had full buds right to the bottom !

The smallest being the full length of my thumb !

Freaking gorgeous looking plant! The stretch is no joke!
Im getting ready to throw some TLT Malawi Gold into flower, most likely in early January. Im planning to take cuts and throw them straight into flower once they root, otherwise I will definitely run out of space.

@Lavindo Plan ahead next time. Its best if you dont stress the plant by cutting her up every day. It will stunt flower development and reduce the overall yield. Also, if the plant is sensitive or genetically unstable, injuring it daily might cause it to throw bananas.

Straight into flower will help but I would suggest you consider topping/training if you don't have six or seven feet of head room ;)

I don't quite agree with that. Each successive grow I have been training more aggressively and have not seen any ill effects.

My efforts have been focused on keeping my plants shorter, limiting the number of tops and eliminating any bottom popcorn buds, makes trimming a breeze !

For sure. They will definitely need excessive topping and training. Im also prepared to super crop the tops after the stretch. Just like the pics you posted. :blsmoke:
