does anyone know how big of an oxygen absorber to put in when you vacuum seal a pound and how long does it take to absorb the oxygen before refrigerating ?

If using vacuum you do not need a "oxygen absorber".

And don't run to full vacuum, you will end up with a brick !

Either shut the machine off early or put the buds inside a freezer bag and evacuate as much air as possible. Then put that inside a vacuum bag.

The remaining air in the first bag will keep the vacuum from crushing/compressing the buds.

I don't think that freezing would stop an oxygen absorber from working. It's basically ferris metal powder inside of the pack, it absorbs the oxygen and makes rust.

I'd still use one in the packages, it's cheap insurance

i got it figured out earlier just took a bit more reading. vacuum seal jars to full vacuum add oxygen asorber to get any remaining oxygen that could degrade thc. refrigerate to prevent the bacteria that causes botulism as the moisture content of the flowers is high enough to invite that in a no oxygen environment. dont freeze refrigerate so as not to damage the trichome heads.

What size oxygen absorber did you end up using? Found this as a reference.

i did some reading on that subject as well, sometimes companies lie about how many cc there oxygen absorbers are its best to weigh them from my understanding i bought some that weighed 10 grams, they claimed to be 500 cc probably overkill there very cheap.

Thanks for sharing. Best of luck, hope they work out for protecting your harvest long term! ✌

this is an older thread, i was reading about this before i bought a commercial vacuum sealer its pretty cool but i ended up not using it much for marijuana. i also didnt mention before in this thread about humidity. heres the thing marijuana the ideal relative humidity is 62% which is way to high to prevent botulism in a zero oxygen environment so if your planning on vacuum sealing pot in glass jars with an oxygen absorber you will need to store them in a fridge at 3 degrees celsius or less to prevent botulism. if i could have done it again i probably would have waited and purchased a vacuum sealer that fills the chamber with nitrogen before sealing then that would eliminate having to use a fridge to store the stuff. you could then say store everything in a cold room rather than having to refrigerate anyway food for thought.
