When I get home from a bike ride, I'm usually covered in the corpses of fungus gnats. They are melted to my sweaty skin, and I am not going 70 mph. I make sure I jump in the shower before going into the grow room, even though they're dead. I always think while I ride through clouds of these things, "if they just flew 3 feet higher, they'd never be touched and could live a long, healthy life." Evolution's strategies are interesting - you can make a species smart and adaptable, or simply make a lot of them...

The rice fields get swarms of little gnats. I have had to hold my hand in front of my face to keep from getting sandblasted by them riding my motorcycle, I was doing 70 or so.

I have an ergonomic thick seat cushion with a tailbone cut out on my driver's seat, and a heating pad that plugs into the lighter socket to put on the small of my back. It is such sweet relief when experiencing back discomfort, and I can drive all day. Highly recommended. I cannot help you with the in-laws...
