just keeping the plant healthy (lush fleshy and dark green) is all that is needed imo
if the genetics allow it the plant will make large buds
increasing the light can help
some good growers swear by products like bud candy, each to their own,

its mostly genetics imo, i do not think 1000w hps makes much difference
600hps gives plenty of light at the canopy when 10-12 inches away i see plenty of large colas
although i find 600w is a fair bit better than 400w imo, 600w is the cut off point for me i have not grown with 1000w hps in many years now

He should try growing in hydro with no nutes and an inert medium. Plant will die very quickly.

Novice growers who grow in soil can't use high concentrations of nutes. It will burn a plant and cause lockout. For this reason novice growers have this mind set that nutes don't work.

Both hydro(me) and organic growers, more so the organic growers have a deeper understanding of mechanisms that make plants tick.

And underfeeding won't only affect yield, it will cause the plant to consume itself and die.

Yes it does but not a level you would actually see, till you were growing taller plants. The other point is if your growing Indica's and high Indica crosses.....A 600 is really all you'll need!

Why 600 and 1K seem so close is that they both get the plant to the "light saturation point". This begins to effect the plant earlier then many think. At that "point" the plant begins to change on the cellular peptide level to "protect" it's self from the intense light of the day. At night, the plant reverts or changes back to the original 100% light receptive "mourning plant". This effect reduces photosynthesis and therefor overall plant growth by as much as 35%......The use of Co2 counters this effect and what you are doing is recovering this 30+ percent by delaying the "saturation point". Thus allowing the plant to photosynthesize at it's full rate...

but to bud size of the individual plants/colas that is genetics, 600w provides enough light at the canopy level

Guys going back onto subject... I'm currently using big bud and on the bottle it says use from week 2 of flower. Is this nute not a pk booster? On another grow I use a Dutch nutrient called explode and once again that starts from week 2 and I was under the impression that was a pk booster too... Now, you guys are saying a pk booster should only be used for a week or 2 from week 5. I'm confused if indeed big bud and explode are OK boosters why they say to start from week 2?... Unless of course these aren't ok boosters??

OK, the thing here is your expecting too much too soon.

Buds form and grow to a "running" size till (strain dependent) about week 6.....At that point is when the "BULKING" phase begins and you will see over the next few weeks till finish that the buds will REALLY build up size and weight. The more and fastest growth comes the closer to harvest.

This is where the "extra" P&K actually DO the work many nutrient makers say their high P&K amounts do from the flip, which, for the most part, is simply hype! This extra high P&K shit used by them tends to make your plant yellow out to soon and cause lost size and yield!

You don't say what you use or how much/how often. I'll say this. The way your plants look, you haven't really overused the given P&K to levels of tox. Nicely done!

Defoliation, the way it looks you did it = makes for smaller buds!

I really hope so. Just hit week 5 and buds are plentiful but simply not bulking. Temps. Hum and lighting and nutes all pretty solid. I hope it's coming!!!!
