Outdoor auto grow

I purchased a few 100% indica autos ( Mephisto 24carat) that I'll be starting outdoors this week.
I've grown some nice autos before, but only indoors. I'm looking for some advice.

Each will be in a 20 gallon soft pot. Soil will be primarily FFOF. Other than that, the plants will occupy a real sunny area in my vegetable garden.
Thoughts?

Assuming you plant directly in your pot, to avoid transplant shock, I would put some kind of mesh over the pot so birds don't eat the seedlings. I have lost a couple of autos outdoors to birds doing this. I usually start outdoor autos in late April or May to avoid the plants trying to sprout in the intense heat of summer. Maybe use some shade cloth while they are getting started?

I would be concerned about the seedlings getting fried under those, outdoors. Do you live at a northern latitude?

Yea, I thought of that. I live on the coast in NE. Lots of wind. My plan is, once the seedlings gets a couple inches, I'll cut the top of the cone down a few inches to open it up to sun and fresh air. But it will still keep the birds out.
