Sulfamic acid as ph down?

It will lower pH. Wether its preferred for plant growing....? Dont know. Never seen that as an ingredient in any pH down for plant use. So a quick Google search says....No, it strongly inhibits plant growth and there are maximum limits allowed in fertilizer.

You're the second person that said this, another forum, so it looks like it's not such a good solution. I guess the sulfuric acid is the route I will go. I found a 98% solution that I'm probably going to buy vs the 33% battery refill pack at the autozone. There's been some concern with it having some potential heavy metals in it vs lab grade. 500ml @ 98% should make a lot right?

Any reason you wont use a product explicitly intended for plant use? If so yes, go with phosphoric acid, i e rust treatment.

Why pay the man ridiculous prices for something so simple to make? Some products actually do , or used to, use sulfuric acid for ph control. It's also a very powerful acid and easier to lower the ph than using the orange stuff..which takes less product and time. I have experience with sulfuric acid, I used it exclusively for years after I got tired of buying ph down; however it was 33% but I could take a few drops and lower gallons quickly. I guess it's the same as making your own clear rez with pool shock...cause why not.

I was just curious about the sulfamic because it was in powder form which is good for storage and usually cheaper. Like powder nutes vs water nutes.

The sulfuric for batterys is fine, diluting it is easier and probably safer than using it straight.
I tried it straight out of the jug and diluted..I prefer the 33% as it only took a drop or three. Also, I got it on my fingers a few times ...and well nothing but a little dryness. The 98% I would dilute!

A friend of mine bears the scars of battery acid.

The vapors of concentrated acids will scar your lungs.

98% is dangerous.

That's why you dilute it..outside in the open air. It's not battery acid ..it's sulfuric acid that also happens to be in batteries. Curious what was your friend doing, was he venting a battery into a closed space?
