Possible Pure Landrace???

I have a bunch of mexican brick weed bag seeds from my time in el paso. I popped a few and was noticing some interesting things happening. Its a month and a week from seed and it's a pretty plant but it is already smelling skunky at 5 nodes. It also has half red stems. I was thinking that in theory brick weed comes from large crops of the local land race and since i got it in el paso tx it is most likely a Mexican land race so if i could identify its characteristics i could trace it back and id the strain of landrace i have thus having original pure mexican sativa land race seeds? Is there a problem with my logic or am i on to something here. Very new grower but have informed myself as much as i can before i started.20240311_125546.jpg20240311_125922.jpg20240311_125939.jpg

Looks thin leaved might be a nice one they were landraces and heirlooms but they would need to be from before Mexico started growing hybrids big time to be pure mexi when did you get the seeds if you know outta curiosity

They're about two years old. but i ended up FIMing it to get extra growth. I brought it inside to go ahead and do that and it smelt up the room decently even though i was already smoking, you could definitely pick it out of the crowd of blueberry gelato smoke and sweet boy smoke. Very excited so i popped two more baby's20240318_204320.jpg20240318_204340.jpg20240319_004913.jpg20240319_004837.jpg20240319_004354.jpg

Stay with it you could have something good there if it’s smelly this early.
I agree i might feminized a plant and give out free seeds because of the pure skunk i keep smelling. Id love to try and get more Skunk out there since its been almost bred out. This has nothing but that sweet skunky stank and id love others to have the genetics available.

There wasn't anything "Landrace" being bricked up after the early 80s.
You have commercial genes but nothing that was isolated and around long enough to develop a landrace.
I'd be just as suspicious about anyone claiming to have pure Acapulco as I would Sierra Madre skunk.

So when were you getting that brick? And how did you keep those beans stored? and why did you keep them?

I've literally tossed out 1000s of old mexi skunk beans decades ago.
Back then nobody ever thought we would want those !! ( until internet forums )

Grew some brick seeds out for my first grow in 88. Came from a batch of greener brick, 35 1/4. Those plants did not herm and it’s the last time I seen red, purple, and orange hairs on the same plants. Had to chop early due to a freak snowstorm first of March that weighed down the rafters and punched the 2 x 4s thru the ceiling, aka landlord was coming. Was beautiful weed, buzz didnt last long due to early chop. I’m not sure the of the Mexican landrace stories, I’ve heard the southern Cali gents were trading and growing seeds in Mexico since way back. I know guys have tried since with brown brick in my area, they never have any decent luck.

Furthermore that must be very old because ALL good commercial farmers insist on whats called ,
"Desmachadero".
That's their process of removing males and hermies . if one farmer gets behind on his desmachadero task then the neighboring farmers always lend a hand.
Nobody in the Sierra madre's wants pollen blowing around because Everyone there grows pot (or poppy).
Only select males are used in seed production.
My point is mexigrowers have practiced "desmachadero farming" since prior to 9/11.
So any seedy bricks from the past 25yrs would've been very lowgrade

Mexico is a big country, in the mountains they have grown indica for a long time. I was in South Texas most of that Mexican was sativa from Michoacan. Long buds, every cola was around two foot long. They grew more for weight , big yielding plants . That was usually the red hair.
The lime/light green was tall sativas with big eleven blade leaves.
I didn't see Mexican indica until 2005, it was small popcorn buds. That was grown in Durango and crossed through to Arizona.
They still grow landrace sativas in southern and eastern Mexico.

I got that brick a few years back and ive kept the seeds in a sealed package in the back of my fridge and i honestly kept them to start practicing growing without ruining any good grade genetics. I decided to grow them out again now cause i was genuinely interested in what would come out of them. Im finding a few different pheonos in the leave shape now and the smell is quite intense for their age

They have Mennonites in Mexico who are farmers and cheese makers. The Mennonites also traveled a lot to Canada and they were known for bringing indica to Chihuahua, Monterey and other places in the north.
