Im looking for any info from people who have first hand accounts of growing Mel's own line of Durban Poison. Im looking for the Black Licorice pheno Durban Poison with hopefully that ripping sativa high that I used to get back in the early 90's.
Ive managed a 20 pack out of Todd M. which Ill be searching thru this summer.
Any first hand info on this strain would be appreciated. Thank you.

I've tried a lot of great Durban Poison over the last 3 years; unfortunately can't answer your question.

But I can say Lucky Dog Seeds (skunk va) has poison diesel which is Durban x Chem 91....I actually have an oz of it right now....and it's straight Durban flavor 100% and a nice sativa high....first time I smoked this strain I over did it very quickly lol.....but I've been smoking it consistently for the better part of 3 years now so it's not that intense to me anymore but I absolutely love the flavor.

Goregous, nice looking flower.
Ive worked with RebelGrown's OG Chem for 3 years now. Its a monster beauty outdoors plant. Love me some Chem.
I swear, if people could experience the Durban of early years (late 80-early 90's). Straight Black Licorice with a ripping 3 hour high to it. No ceiling.
I think we thought back then stuff would be around forever. Sadly, a lot of that era stuff is simply gone. Or guys arent gonna part with it.
In my research, Durban is so bastardized anymore. Original Durb wasnt citrusy, peppery, spicy, or any other flavor it claims to be now, in my experience. No mistaken Black Licorice for anything else. Thus I went to the source.
If I find a OG Chem male I like I prolly hit it to this Durban for shits and giggles. See what would pop out.

I'm telling you that chem91 x Durban is that black licorice flavor you're looking for....I've smoked so much of that strain though so potency is definitely way down for me but others that aren't used to it usually end up loving it

We had wonderland nursery’s og chem clone a few years back, I recently found out came from rebelgrown. To this day, it’s still some of the best weed I’ve ever smoked. A true face melter, after doing some reading it’s actually originally from reservoir genetics. You’re running seeds? Is it rebel’s double og chem? Cheers, sorry to get off topic, wish I still had that plant. Any idea what the actual lineage is?

Depends on the line theres the anise one and then theres others theres more than just mels durban out there sure most people use mels B line as the A was lost and hermed bad but sssc always claimed there durban was a different line and there is some other ones sourced elsewhere as well @hotrodharley on here runs a old durban line im sure he could tell you more on it

The older dutchpassion line its not pure durban its got skunk in it but that used to have those terps in my experience anyway as for from them these days idk id probably maybe look at the one angus from rsc /kwik seeds has i aint ran it but he is a honest bloke and it might be closer to that than what dp put out today its got skunk in it too but i think all the seedbank versions got something else in them to cut bloom time and chunk up the flowers a bit few admit it but you can see it in the plants

I do not have experience with the current S1's, but have grown out Mel's Durban's that were available through Todd several years ago. I was unable to find an anise odor pheno. I still have about a dozen non-femmed beans left, and may give it another try. I was lucky enough to get Durban beans directly from Mel around 1980 that all had profound anise odor, so I understand what you are seeking. Wish I could be of more assistance.

I don’t wanna veer this thread off track but I wanted to try and help .. rebel is gonna have to dispute this but the reason being u can’t find more info bc the strain never came from reservoir genetics.. Rez never made a OG Chem he made a chemdog IBL which wasn’t that good or viable

the person who made OG chem was CSG connisuer genetics he made it before 2010 I think like 08-09 .. I believe he did a bid and at that point I guess his work was “borrowed” ..but I have never seen a OG chem besides his

Thanks for the info. I’ve thought about reaching out to Kevin to see if he can tell me more too. If you come across that cut, grab it, it’s easily one of the strongest things I’ve smoked and a very psychoactive trippy high. Our farm had it in 2018. Now back to your regular scheduled programming :weed:

No, I dont think Dan got any Og or Chem as far as I know from Rez. I think but dont quote me that he got the Sour Diesel stuff from Rez. Im sure the Og and Chem stuff came from elsewhere but again I cant speak for the guy. Could be CSG. Og Kush and Chem91 been around Cali circles for a long time also.
I do know Dan been working his lines since early 2010s. He has like F4-F5 stuff of his lines he crosses into other stuff. Im sure he knows the traits inside out by now. He has put in the work with his gear I do know that.

Gorgeous Skuba. Yup, Im running Rebels Double OG Chem seeds. Regs. Got some of his Sour stuff too.
Yea my OG Chem stuff l;ooks just like yours. 7.5 foot tall 8 ft wide 1 liter popbottle sized cola branches as long as my arm. Like the first picture and last. In my micro climate I can run em till 3rd-4th week of October in a good year. His OG Sour stuff looks similar to this too.
I cant verify the lineage bro. Im sure if I contaced him he would tell me honestly. Its def Chem lineage. Anything Ive hit the Og Chem males to this Chem tends to dominate anything it touches.

Im dropping Melès Durb in water today. Im prolly just a sucker for nostalgia maybe. But the anise Durb back in the day would put alot of todays stuff to shame. In Canada anyways. Unfortuatly Durb has gone 18 different directions. Durb now covers the spectrum from earthy to fruit to floral to peppery to terpinoline etc. Im hoping to find anise dominant stuff. I could be grasping at straws. I can post pics throughout the season, if all goes well. Get some info out on it anyways.

I grew afew of CSIs Durban S1s. I got 1 lemon-lime type pheno and the other 2 were terpionline based. I remember they didnt even start to flower here till mid September, but finished up by the 2nd-3rd week of October. They had very unique tops to them. Very dense. Nice high but Im not a fan of Terpinloine and Lemon.

Solid flower. There was no squeeze on this flower even early on. To me this has a very unique flower shape I could pick out anywhere.
Terpinoline dominant pheno pictured.
