I got a love/hate relationship with pawn shops. currently i have 2 guitars being held hostage for way too much $ but i was in a bad spot last year and had to sacrifice something.

anyway, what do you think about pawn shops? have anything on loan there now? i was just lamenting the inevitable loss of both my guitars.....

My kid hocked all the stuff we gave him at Pawn shops. Really pissed me off. But, they are in demand, especially now. I guess if you are in a bad situation what else can you do? The banks sure aren't lending money. It is like they have you by the short and curlys....what can you do? nothing.

there's way better ways to sell stuff nowadays.
That is true, but, if you are in an immediate situation like a sick animal or such...it is difficult. The days of calling your credit card company and asking them to extend your credit instantly are over...even applying for credit and getting approved on the spot, those days are over....leaves people very limited to getting a hold of major cash quickly. But, hey, we bailed out the banks so that should be coming to an end....NOT.

Pawn shops used to be needed as well as a cool place to find good deals on used things, since the explosion of ebay all pawn shops have become store fronts for ebay reselling operations, gone are the days of finding a great deal at a pawn shop, anything & everything of real value is instantly put on auction, show room floor prices on goods of lessor quality or value are also a direct represntation of going ebay selling rates but usually reflect items that are in mint condition & not in the beat up condition of show room floor items.

I understand people needing to sell personal items to survive i just dont understand using a pawn shop & being ripped off,why not take the item & sell it on ebay in the 1st place, then collect all the money instead of the standard 20% of selling price that pawn shops pay people for the merchandise.

Pawn shops use ebay going rates to determine their buy values, why not go straight to ebay & keep it all for yourself, pawn shops are leeches.

The money the government is talking about spending when it is all said and done is 24 thousand per american---thats every man, woman, and child. Fuck the businesses--get the people out of debt---let new business replace the bad ones---so new people can get rich. It will probably be even more money because they admit to 24k so it will be twice that---government policy:)

Our kids-kids are so screwed. We used it all up---there's none to spare---it was a good run though:hump:

yea they exploit the desperation of others and at the same time provide a service nobody else does. like sunny said, sometimes there is just no place else to turn. some people use pawn shops like banks and get their checks cashed there cause they don't have bank accounts...

there's a lot of power in the chair of the person behind the counter in the pawn shop.:hump::hump:

Most of them are fuck wads. greedy capitalistic spineless fucks-- but i'm grateful for em nonetheless....lol

of course right now gold is at an all time high, so they are ripping us off every which way. paying $5 a gram for 14k scrap gold and selling it for $15. gold is intrinsic in value, it's like selling a hundred dollar bill for $35.00...
