So next September i am going to college and one of my dreams is to grow my own bud. So i was wondering, what would the total cost of a basic indoor grow room(soil)? Basically i am looking to be growing in a closet and ill be staying in an apartment.

I will post the dimensions of the closet later but im just trying to get a general idea of what the cost might be and how much i need to save up.

I've probably spent around $1000. It's hard to say because I add things to it all the time. I think my basic setup was around $200. That was flowering with red CFLs which I wouldn't recommend. :)

Be careful growing in college. You don't want to get kicked out of school.

Yea I know I'm gonna be extra careful and I was thinking of saving like 300-400 for a basic soil setup but I have no clue if that's enough or not. And I have a basic idea of what I need but is there a link or could someone just list the parts of a basic soil setup.

At the top of this page is a button that says "Grow FAQ." It will answer many of your basic setup questions. $300 or $400 should be plenty if you spend your money wisely.

Thanks wildfire. Can anyone offer some feedback on if 300-400 is okay for a basic soil setup?
Your close but i wouldnt start until i had a full $500 to invest & buy every last thing your going to need,especially a properly designed & implemented odor control system thats in place & ready to go once the grow op starts stinking,too many people wait till the last minute to worry about odor control & end up in a panic.

Light & ballast = $150.
Odor control = $150.
Soil/perlite/fertilizer = $50.
Complete ph kit =$50
Mics,fans,plastic,paint.
Extension cords.
Duct tape.
Thermometor.
Hygrometor. =$100

Total = $500.00

You can save few bucks here & there but $500 is about bare minimum for a complete grow system & this is if you shop smart.

Edit,i forgot about seeds,on your 1st few grows stay away from seedbank seeds & use bag seeds,seedbank seeds will not help your 1st grow be any better,if the bag the seeds came from was good then so will the weed you grow,keep all investment money put where it counts the most & that is on equipment & grow room,once you get the room nailed down & get a feel for growing then & only then invest in seedbank seeds if you feel the need.

Panhead brings up an excellent point on odor conrol. You will NEED that in an apartment. I live out in the stix so I just use a little ONA gel.

If you live in an apartment with other people in the building you will NEED odor control. Even the less stinky stuff still stinks.
yea notice that i didnt say he wouldnt need it just that it wouldnt smell as bad so he wouldnt have to spend so much on odor control...way to correct a nonexistent error and come off like a dick, stay smokingbongsmilie

For growing one plant under CFLs in my closet, I was originally thinking I could do it for under $100?? Are fertilizers absolutely necessary if im not looking for huge yeilds the first go around? Im just looking for enough to keep me happy for a little while, until I can atleast get another one into flowering.

My set up I am about to make is basically 8 CFL's (2 each in 4 of those aluminum utility light clamps) with an oscillating fan in my closet, which is 36" x 40". I am planning on buying the smallest thing of some decent soil (I was originaly thinking MG but I keep reading on here that is bad? so I was thinkin Scotts or something else??) I would also have to buy a decent extension cord, and a big pot to grow in. I think I can manage without a timer for the lights for this first grow.

I am kinda worried about the pH kit....is this an absolute necessity? I was thinking I can manage without it, and let tap water sit out for a day or 2 before I use it.

During the veg stage, I was going to make one of the buckets with water and febreze in it for smell. Anything else that I have to have to grow a single plant?

Wildfire, I wasn't trying to insult your intelligence, just clarify your point. I just didn't want him getting a less stinky strain thinking it wouldn't stink at all. You brought up a valid point about a strain with less odor and I like your grow.
