Ok, im, sorry for a subject change. I’ve been growing for over30 years started out. W standard HPS for flower, Mh for veg different sizes for different spaces, for roughly 20 years, no problems, switched to the 315 watt ceramics when they came out, expensive at the time but worth it as my gram per watt increased from 1.25 to just over 1.5 grams per watt. Then led’s started up, bought a few of the old cob’S just small 100 watt ones from grow green they worked well for small area like over clones but having 4 over a 4x4 table didn’t really produce well, penetration w/ 100 watt cobs suck and gram per watt was not even worth weighing in. Since then leds have changed gotten bigger, better. My thought process was always gram per watt and amount of electric consumed by light. Hps say 400 watt over a4x4 area, 1.25gpw , 315 watt ceramic over same 4x4 table same notes everything 1.6-1.75 gpa improvement…. However the ceramic ballast were shit and needed to be replaced several times over a 3 year period…so old hps/mh probably still better. Maybe now ceramic ballasts have improved and last longer but it seems no use as led is the new big one. Anyways 3 years ago I converted to led, I run a 350 watt off brand relassy light for a 2x5 foot veg area and it works very well, in all honesty I have 4 of them as they were on Amazon really cheap and I use 3 in my upstairs room for tomatoes, lettuce, herbs and flowers but thats more my wife’s territory. Anyways they work well for the purpose off veg. In my flower room I use another off brand led a 400 watt yuanhui another one I got at a price I couldn’t pass up on. Anyways as far as gram per watt w this 400 I’m back to 1.2-1.3 gram per watt so not as good as cmh and roughly same as old hps. im sure there are better led lights far superior to the ones I got my question to all of you is…..what’s the light you use, area of coverage and gram per watt? I want a better led for my 4x4 flower table in hopes of getting 1.5-1.75 GPW,,,,,is it possible? Maybe I’m just old and set in my ways but as far as worth the money,,,hps, and metal halide stood the test of time I have 30 year old ballasts that still work like new! now led save on electric and raise my gram per watt,, not really, not yet,,or is it my light? Do I need a better one? I don’t want to go higher in watts as it defeats the purpose I figure 4x4 400 watts should cover it. I know if I went up in watts I’d get more, just like if I ran a 600 watt hps over 4x4 I end up with more weight but in terms of gram per watt it’s the same as a 400 watt hps…another question is will these led lights stand the test of time? Is it worth investing in top of the line led lights today if in 3-5 years they will be obsolete??? Anyways any advise would be well taken. Should I buy newer better 400 watt light ? If so what one? And I’d love to hear what gram per watt you all are getting and under what lights?
