Humidifier with tap water

Hear me out and correct me if I am wrong but i bought the little humidifier from ac infinity for $50 i put about 1.5gal of water through it per day. If i buy distilled water at 1.29/gal i'd be spending more on the water than using the humidifier with tap wate until it breaks because of the shit and buying a new one? No?

That's inherent to any ultrasonic humidifier.

Using tap water can result in an ultra-fine, talc-like deposits on everything from the mineral content.
Most concerning, is that it will quickly clog a filter.

i bought one of those zero water fridge containers. i "think" the filter is gonna be cheaper than buying distilled for me. and it came with a EC meter too.

They make cheap water distillers too, and you can also use those for other weed related things

i mean i've been running mine and it stays going because RH outside the closet is 40ish and it's been on now for 3 months and no deposits of anything..... that would be the only thing that would really concern me because i am already ahead on not buying water and it's still running.... I'll run some vinegar through it soon

If you're not getting mineral soot, your tap is probably very low in CaCO3 and likely have nothing to worry about.
My Lake Michigan water has a shitload and will clog my carbon prefilter in a few days.
When I first noticed the decreased airflow, I was stumped. It took me a week to figure out what was happening.

What Billy said. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Sounds like your tap water is ok.

AC Infinity recommends only using distilled water in the device. I would suggest a simple RO system like this, you could drill a hole in a 5 gal bucket and run the float to it so it always stays topped up for your humidifier.

I'm on detroit water...supposedly some of the best tap water in the country...or so they claim.

I would beg to differ.. haha I'm from MI the only places with good water are way up north. I wouldn't want to drink or smoke fluoride.

My well was installed in around 2002 on a new house build with a raised foundation, very possible they didn't go deep enough and I'm just slurping in ground water ffs. I've been thinking about getting a professional out to measure depth and tell me if I'm just boned or if they can somehow drill deeper or something and get cleaner water.

I know our "static water level" is only 20 ft. As for my particular well I have no clue how deep it was made, county records show nearby houses with 150-160 ft deep on average.
