Those look similar to our King snakes. Ours will hunt rattlesnakes and eat them. They are constrictors and are immune to rattlesnake poison from what I have read.

Random observations from our trip to Texas.
It's hard to see where you're going in a car when you are surrounded by large pickup trucks.
I have never been to a place that displays the state flag everywhere. Did we forget where we are?
You want good sausage, go to the hill country, yum yum.
You can pretty much go as fast as you want, carry a gun however you want but you can't smoke pot?
I highly recommend Roswell NM as a place to stay when leaving Texas heading west. Our hotel was cheap and comfortable, had a great mexican restaurant across the parking lot and a dispensary a half a block away.
It was good to get back to the cozy confines of a legal state.
My plants exploded while I was away, time to transplant to their final SIP pots.

I would agree with your assessment, it looks like a king snake.
I would die walking to the mailbox. Which is bolted about a foot from my front door.

My Mother In Law would STILL drive to a mailbox 1 foot away from the front door. She is the ULTIMATE in lazy ...... I would die walking to the mailbox. Which is bolted about a foot from my front door.

King snakes are great to have around because of them taking care of rattlers. I guess they are pretty much everywhere in the US. I had one that was brown and white instead of black, it's a natural color morph. The last time my dad saw it it was about 6' long.

We had two of them in our yard at the same time. I couldn't be happier. Our small auxiliary dog was bitten by a rattlesnake in our back yard a few years back. He survived. Since the king snakes have been making an appearance we haven't had any more rattlesnakes, or ground squirrels either I'm afraid.
