GOP angry at woke Barbie.

The highly anticipated Barbie debuted to strong reviews (it has a 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes), with many reviewers singling out the feminist themes as a highlight, but right-wing media have called out Barbie’s feminist angle as “woke” and criticize what they say is a “man-hating” portrayal of Ryan Gosling’s Ken.

lol Old men just realized that Ken was an accessory for Barbie and hate the idea of Ken in a sexualized objective role to burnish Barbie's image. . Too funny, this. I couldn't make something like this up.

Would there even BE a Ken if not for Barbie? And those bible thumpers are only now waking up to that fact. Ken should work out, His knees seem a little knobby.

Pixar had great fun portraying Ken as the archetype “himbo”.

Maybe if they were bleached white in the sun?
I suspect with climate change and continuing globalization we will see a lot of climate refugees in the coming decades and some of them will be wealthy and white. I keep thinking what the right super hurricane hitting Florida in the right place would do, insurance companies would write the place off, many have already. Florida might produce its own climate refugees as would many places in the US south including Texas. It's not just an American issue either Europe also has its hands full and there are many small cultures and languages there that feel threatened by an influx of newcomers more so than our big globally dominate Anglo cultures and language.

The hammer will be the disappearance of some of our richest terrains on coasts. (The way things are going, it will happen faster than even the Cassandras have warned.) Keep an eye on insurers. That exodus has begun.

The anvil will be the disappearance of previously dependable sources of fresh water for agriculture and home use.

Too much and not enough water at once will be a global heartbreak. I expect wars to be fought over the shrinking good land, before the century nears its end.

make me wonder what applications can it work with....i know it's new....

Interesting but not yet peer reviewed or duplicated elsewhere, important for confirmation. If practical and it can lead to new technologies, they will win a Nobel for it.

Sigh...I would like to think that scientists were above petty ego and glory seeking...I see way too many stories like this, and about plagarism, and about suspect papers with glaring errors in them, being published just to up their numbers. There should be some real consequences for wasting the time and money of the institutions they're working for. Failure is acceptable, fraud is not.
Roger posted the technica article in March in The Junk Drawer thread. The scandal was neatly summed up in the YT blogpost link below.

I figured I'd post this cautionary tale about the last time a team "discovered" room temperature low pressure superconductors.

Not saying the Korean team hasn't, just saying the last superconductor scandal made a good story to tell to a nerd like me.

I recall the controversy and was waiting for the judgement of peers, so I didn't pay too much attention to it, same with this one.

yeah i remember that, like you i waiting for a peer viewed, and maybe like DIY said , someone duplicating the process, also making sure the math is correct....i got the name of it written down, so i'll do a search everyonce while to see if something pops up.....that goes with what i mentioned....

the vid of it is cool, but if you watch it, you'll notice one side is heavier that the other, which kinda throws me off a little......

It is just new and unverified, not necessarily fraudulent, the jury has not even begun to sit, though the theorists might spout off. First peer review in a journal with some duplication or failing to duplicate the results and verify the methodology etc. If there is something to it, then it will be improved upon and perhaps a technology or several will be founded from it. Like I said, if what they say is true, then they hand out Nobel prizes for these kinds of pragmatic breakthroughs.

It’ll be nice when they can serially produce buttons or ingots that levitate completely,
and can draw wires long and good enough to make cryogen-free field magnets for, say, MRI.

Science these days is global involving thousands of institutions and tens of thousands of scientists specializing in some areas, everybody is connected with the internet and things don't need to be formally published and peer reviewed for someone else to get in on the action and duplicate the experiments, scientists crow and gossip like everybody else.
