Yesterday's Mass Shooting.

Ya see even a place like Serbia is lightyears ahead of America in terms of democracy and the response to reality. Are there any measures adopted after the daily mass murders in America? Even if 80% want it. How does it feel to be ruled by such a small minority?

Serbian gun homicide rate (per 100k) = 0.3
US gun homicide rate (per 100k) = 6.7

So, yeah, Serbia, along with most other European nations have much lower gun homicide rates and stronger gun regulations.

I don't think it has anything to do with it but your claim about the strength of democracy in Serbia is wrong.

According to this site: https://www.democracymatrix.com/ranking , Serbia is rated at 155th as a moderate autocracy.

I'm not crowing, US Democracy is rated at 36th as a "Deficient Democracy" and I agree.

Not all gun owners. Just those who purchase and keep a gun close specifically "for self defense". In almost all cases where people do that, they are responding to an irrational fear AND raise the risk of harm to the people around them. That is cowardice.
Yes I agree. Did I miss that distinction in ops post ;(.

Within the context of DIY's post, he wasn't talking about all gun owners, so maybe you did. That said, I can see how people who don't own a gun "for self defense" are getting tired of being lumped together with gun nuts. This daily deluge of shootings is getting me cranky on the subject. I should probably not post in this thread for a while.

It was more of a dig Serbia is a country that not long ago committed crimes against humanity and they are sympathetic to Russia. Yet somehow, they are more responsive to the wishes of the majority of citizens than America is, and this too is a measure of democracy. Serbia is an ethnonationalist semi fascist state, but they can respond in a normal way to a national tragedy and address the real causes and this was a country involved in a real civil war a few decades ago.

I was talking about mass shootings in the states and the reason for most people owning guns there, fear is not a valid reason to own a gun in Canada and has not been for a long time. In America it's like going to prison, the first thing they do is sharpen their toothbrush into a shive for self-defense or offense. If 4% hunts, then the other 31% of Americans who own guns are fear driven. Self-defense is not a valid reason to own a gun in Canada and those punks who carry handguns here are either driven by fear and or malice, both most of the time.

I forget. Where is Canada's capital? Does Canada even have one?

Maybe foxnews will try to gin up an invasion if we ban them from cable in Canada. Tucker was about to, before he got fired from foxnews and tried to turn Justin into a nazi for his fans, just like the Russians are doing with Ukraine.

I did mention that I am happy with the gun laws in Canada and don't see much need for improvement, it's not the people who are hunting in the woods who are the issue, it's the ones hunting humans in the towns and cities. Increasing sentences won't deal with smuggled handguns, changes to American law will. Can you seriously see the current situation down south persisting and getting worse for that much longer? The mass murders are just the ones that make the news hundreds of shootings a day do not. We will see if the democrats gain power, but Joe was talking about banning all semiautomatic guns, right off the hop! You think I'm radical?

Welp I am sorry if I didn’t see the distinction in your post. It’s sometimes hard with the hefty content of your responses :(. No I don’t think your a radical, far from it, your Canadian after all :(. As for it changing soon in the States, I don’t see it happening in my life :(.

Just think, there are thousands of magats that are tickled pink over this because it will sure "trigger the libs!" They sure as shit see absolutly nothing wrong with this situation and if anything, want more of it. This guy could have walked into that mall with an AR15 and it was perfectly legal, until he started shooting people with it, but he could have been "standing his ground" because something frightened him too! Indeed, a cop who stopped him outside the mall with the AR15 on his shoulder could have been fired for interfering with his 2nd amendment rights. Nope, he was perfectly legal until he started shooting people.

So, what is Abbott's next move, mandatory open carry for the mentally ill? I mean there's not much more he can do except make a law that everybody must be armed at all times in Texas.

Representative Keith Self, a Republican who represents Allen, Texas, said on CNN that critics who are calling for more than “thoughts and prayers” after Saturday’s shooting “don’t believe in almighty God, who is absolutely in control of our lives.” Instead, he said, the country’s lack of “mental health institutions” is to blame.

“Really I would like to stay away from the politics today because I want to focus on the victims, today we should be focused on the families (thoughts),” he said. “Prayers are important and they are important in the families that are devastated right now.”

If a single one of those cocksuckers gave a flying fuck, they'd be doing something, besides offering vapid, empty platitudes.
I have to wonder just how stupid those that keep them in power have to be.
