Got a small cab 3' tall 3'long 18" wide. I was thinking about buying this light this week but wanted to hear from some of you guys first. It has 4 t5s and i will buy both spectrum. It also has a 150hps. The prob. is that it will run about 400 with both spectrums. Would it be cheaper and more efficient to go with a different set up???

Fuck! $320 for 24k lumens! A 400w hps with an enhanced spectrum bulb will give you twice as much for half the money. Just so you know.

Oh trust me I know, but I also know how much better quality I get with fluoro's so I think the addition of the t5's is real nice but I'm sure I can build one cheaper.

you can still buy a 400w HPS with added t5's for cheaper. And that wimpy reflector on that HPS prob wont give out too much light

Nothing beats an HPS

the problem with that is that once you get the hps high enough not to burn the plants and get decent coverage your beyond useful range of the floro's, look at all the cfl grows, those guys keep them within just a few inches of the tops, and for good reason, the light drops off super quick with distance, so basiclly the t5's will be a waste of time, for that kind of cash you can get a 600 hps that puts down 90,000 lumens

Or you can say fuck that and copy my setup for WAY cheaper and have yourself harvesting 1-2 oz a week in 2.5 sq ft!!! The method I use is sooooo much more efficient and I start my girls about 10" away from my CFL's the trick is to have the right amount of lumens per square foot. I have 100w per square foot giving me 6300 lumens per square foot!!!! I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on a HID setup, you learn so much more and so much faster about growing IMO cuz you harvest so often. You also have the ability to run multiple strains ect.. I've also produced better bud than the HID friends I have and had their buddies asking "damn bro did you by this at a club? this some pricey shit?" I just laughed like no thats all CFL bud right there buddy.. The amount of Infa red radiation that is emitted from HID damages trichomes on the tops and IMO thats the best part of the plant!!!

It looks nifty, but I agree that the height you'll need for the hps will render the cfl's useles, but it looks good...,

how so? I have a 150w and it gets my cab to be over 95degrees. Even with my 4" vortex exhausting the air it stays at about 89.

400 watts is going to get it sizzling in that small space bro. You'll have to get a cooltube and T5s won't help. I'd actually suggest 2 of those $20 150w e-conolite HPS dealies, with a very decent ventilation scheme.

^^ those arent made anymore :(

T5's get really hott. I dont know why people say flouros dont produce heat, becuase i had just 2 of them and they made the area get about 89 degrees.

400wcooltube-->vortex fan-->exhaust--> is the way to go.

.
Oh well, plantlightinghydroponics.com has ballast kits for cheap, even HIDHut and HTG have great deals.

It's cuz people don't realize what a watt is.

Hell yeah

I say cool tube the 150 and you can do it, many peeps have done it before it's not hard to pull off.. I have a 4" axial fan that puts out 110cfms that would do the trick and they only cost $17 each!! have one of those on the end of the cool tube and use 2 more for cab intake and exhaust for the t5's and you'd be set bro...

in my experiences, active intakes dont do much. Its better to have passive intake so there is negative pressure (this will insure that all contaminated air is getting exhausted) Also, if i were shopping for an HPS, id go with the 400w over the 150w. Way better deal.
