The silicon is more rigid and a different flat style opposed to the soft tapered thin round ones from a BBQ brush. I believe they are also interchangeable so if one gets gummy just switch out the silicon on the handle and keep on keeping on. I've just always wet trimmed. Found it easiest for me so that's what I do. Tried it once my friends way when we grew together outdoors by letting it dry first and just found it to be messy, and I ended up breaking up buds so I just do it my way and it keeps me happy. Different strokes for different folks.$20 for a silicone brush... jeeze. They are $5 at Walmart for the same thing lol.
I hate over-dry weed so I'm better off just doing it right with some scissors. I don't care for trimming either, but if I block out some time on a weekend I get it all done and that's it.
Maybe you could cut the BBQ brush back a bit so the bristles stay a bit more rigid? Duno never tried. The only thing I use BBQ brushes for is basting and as bead pegs for fishing. Hella cheaper than buying 'bead stops' for 100x the price.
