lobotomy is a procedure that severs connections to and from the prefrontal cortex. It did not kill the mind, the effects on people who were given them were described as emotionally blunted and restricted intellectually. It's quite possible that the prefontal cortex continued to function but could not communicate with the rest of the brain. That said, yes, there are functions we associate with a person's mind mind that depend on this region that are demonstrably lost when the prefrontal cortex is no longer interconnected with the rest of the brain.Yes there is.
You just woke up from a coma and have no memory you can still do all of the following with exception of remembering which you will do once you make new memories..perceiving, remembering, considering, evaluating, and deciding.
Each part of your brain is responsible for different activity.
Where is the mind? It's located within your left and right temporal lobes. That's why lobotomy kills the mind.
The prefrontal cortex is interconnected with the rest of the brain. Executive functions are associated with that area but in order to perform those functions, it needs access to other areas, such as the hippocampus, where long term memories are stored and other areas of the brain that are involved in the senses, such as taste, touch and smell. Brain regions involved with attention, cognition, action and emotion are all interconnected with the PFC but don't reside there. The mind is all of these and more.
