First thanksgiving as a vegetarian

Tf am I supposed to do?! I know my family well enough to know they’re going to take it as personal slight despite me planning to bring a vegetarian entree(probably eggplant parm) meat just doesn’t agree with me anymore. Shit doubled in price and halved in quality.

You eat that turkey wether you like it or not. Do as I tell my kids just pretend your hungry and eat it anyway. No no no lol if you don’t eat meat then don’t eat meat enjoy your family time and spend the day with them and give thanks you don’t have to eat meat is it a all meat dinner or are there sides like eggs or potatoes or noodles or yams or rolls or casserole or cheese balls or macaroni bud cheese plenty of choices besides meat. I’m not the biggest fan of turkey but do enjoy cooking and watching other people devour it

I know one thing, you can’t have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat. I’d just have turkey, but I like it. I just finished putting one in brine to make tonight just because they are so cheap right now. Seriously though, make an entree and bring a side as well, no one will care other than feel sorry for you. I have a sister in law that is vegan, I used to try to make stuff, now I just let her bring whatever she wants.

I had a vegan bring her "hotdogs" to a BBQ, asked her where they find the lips and ears to grind up to make them. She was not amused.

Ain’t a religion lol, it’s not even about morals or animal cruelty, or the environment, just don’t like meats anymore and didn’t much like turkey to begin with.
If you're part of a potluck T'giving why not take something traditional, green bean casserole, yam casserole, fruit salad, pies, cakes or candy. Just don't even get into it with them. Eat a large meal first then go enjoy the time you spend and eat around the meats.

Not caring what other people think about meaningless shit makes life so much easier.
I would agree to that except what is unimportant to you might be important to someone else you might care about, for reasons you may not have yet discerned.

For example, I think we can all agree dog poo pick up bags are pretty unimportant in the scheme of things. However I'm the one that does all the poo pick up and having a slightly better quality dog poo bag is worth it to me. However my husband bought the cheapest ones that split constantly and I could not be sure I wouldn't end up with a split bag. I dislike waste so I felt I couldn't throw them away. Now my husband gets to pick up all the dog feces until those bags are gone. Turns out he doesn't like them splitting and getting dog poo on his hands either!!

Sometimes small, seemingly meaningless things are important you may just not know why from your frame of reference.

That wouldn't be a problem with my family. Everyone would just go "Good, more for me."

Just don't eat the turkey. Lighten up the mood and joke about yourself becoming a vegetarian. If it's really going to be an issue then just eat a portion of meat and forget about it. It's not like you've been a strict vegetarian for any length of time.

I got 2 Honeybaked hams i gotta drive more than an hour to go pick up on monday. There is no way i could make it as a vegetarian. I don’t really give 2 shits for the turkey on turkeyday but its a must have for sandwiches after. Which reminds me i gotta go buy some mayo

That’s pretty much the plan, I’m just mentally preparing myself for the snide remarks really. Doesn’t help that I’m the black sheep of the family either. Everyone else got post graduate degrees and careers, I’m a “40 year old pot dealer” bongsmilie :dunce:
If your family is the type that monitor what people around them are eating then I'd skip it entirely and go fishing like @Paddletail suggested.

There are few times I have invoked the non-negotiable "NO".

Knowing "when to" and "when not to" is a balancing act on the razors edge.
