I was reading a 2011 post hear where someone asked about thier purple tricomb heads .is there any new info on this subject.
I'm keeping an eye on my plans and I'm finding clear , milky , some amber and now some nice purple heads. This is my first "planned " cut using tricomb colors and a determination. Any thoughts on when I should cut . .. now or another week.
It's indoor under 600w led with temp between 71 and 87 f.

Whole plant pics would be better to determine. The trichomes don't tell the whole story.

I'll take any info.
I took this plant to revise it. It started blowing and I tripped it back to grow and kept it inside from then on . I let it grow till it was almost to big for the light source 600w led. I tripped it back and it is in bloom cycle for about 9 weeks. I don't know the stain. And the swell is sour strong and not sweet like I'm use to . I'll add before and after pick.

Once pistils have browned and receded, then she should be close to ripe.

She looks pretty good! But I still see some white pistils. She's still growing. 2 -3 more weeks is my guess.
Everything I read and friends have said is to look at the pistols... yes, but the true potency it determined by the tricombs . That is why I bought a microscopes to play with . It's not my plant so I don't want to ruin it. My last plant was guess work using only the pistols color change and and early decision due to a hurricane. But it was a good plant and had good reviews.
I would personally cut this now but would like a few more opinions.
Thanks

No sweat. Your plant. You can chop when you want. :bigjoint:

I don't bother looking at the trichomes anymore. The plant/buds, take on a certain look when ripe. You'll eventually get an eye for it.

Articles like that have caused more to chop early than they have helped. To actually see the trich's that tell you anything, you would have to peel open a bud and look at the ones inside, not a great way to judge readiness.

Like said above your plant your choice. When I started growing I harvested plants at different levels of maturity to see the difference. Over time I realized if in doubt it's better to wait. Now I wait until the plant has a certainly look like mentioned above. It's almost a white plasticity look when all the tricomes have gone completely cloudy and there are a good amount that have tuned amber. Your plants look awesome but doesn't have that look yet.

All that being said, I like a very strong high that others may not like. In that case you would want to harvest sooner.

Thanks for the info. As I new beginner. I want to learn as much as I can . I'm going to sacrifice a lower bud an see if I can see more for understanding purposes.

Are these purple trichs on purple leaves ? I would guess the purple is from the oil in the trich pulling the purple color from the leaves..
The purple can leach out of them. I microwaved a purple bud once( i know its a sin) on some paper towel and the purple blead into the paper..

Actually there is no purple I the leaves or steps of this plant . My outdoor plant this year had red viens in all the leave a few weeks before cutting. Though it was phosphorus deficiency. Tried flushing and refeeding but it was in a garden and that was just futile.. if it was even the reason .

The purple trichs are just a trait, they don't have anything to do with the plant being ready or not. To me they still look clear, so I'd say not ready yet. She is a purdy plant though! Nice find!

But yeah, she's definitely got some white pistils that haven't receded yet. Probably about 1-2 weeks away. It can be hard to say.

And as others already said, trichomes only tell part of the picture. "Ripe" is subjective, but every plant has their sweet spot. Use your intuition, and don't give into the desire to harvest early because you're drooling all over your buds lol. It can be hard I know, but patience and experience go a long way in this hobby.

Thanks for the help. Patience isn't my strong suit. But I always listen to reason.
