How many plants can I run in one tote

Moving back into hydro. First runs going to be a small pheno hunt was hoping to fit 10 plants 4inch netpots in two 27 gallon totes. Lids inner dimensions are 25in x 17in. think I could squeeze 5 each? Veg times gonna be really short 1-2 weeks, just long enough to get roots going really.

Of course you COULD grow five plants in each one of those tubs, esp if you're going to keep em small.

But I would only recommend that if they're five of the same plants...clones. Otherwise each plant going to have separate needs and it might be hard to juggle and you might not get the best outta them.

I can tell you that from experience as I've currently got four plants at eight weeks in a tub half the size of tge ones you're proposing and its a bloody nightmare.

I’m definitely anticipating some work. But I really wanna do this pheno hunt and pick a mom so I have a consistent product. Maybe I’ll just do 12/12 from seed, be able to keep ‘em really small.

Why not do the pheno hunt in coco. You could do small pots, and then you can cater to each individuals nutritional needs.

Don’t wanna buy coco, got everything I need for hydro. Had enough fungus gnats and bugs doing soil for the past 2 years that I’m just done with anything like it indoors.

They'll still probably get crammed together towards the end, and it will be harder to see some of the traits, as the compete with each other for space. If all you want is to see how the buds stack up, and don't mind the roots getting tangled up, go for it.

There's a big distinction between coco and soil

I've used coco exclusively for a few years and haven't had any pests whatsoever

Yeah, reg seeds blueberry diesel, not run em before so I’m not sure what to expect as far as stretch or branching goes. Suppose I could get a fifth tote and do 2 per in the 8x4.

very good question. I had this issue and in some cases I was able to untangle them which was very time consuming. Second time I just just cut the male and left the root in the water. Prob not the smartest idea, but I had no issues thankfully.

to answer the thread question. I ran one plant in a 27Gal tote and yielded about 7oz I had to cut down the others and it worked out well with one plant

This is something I need to think on. Probably just gonna end up doing 2 per like I said above, that should be fairly manageable.

agreed! My outdoor plants are yuuuge. Anyway for my next indoor grow I want the short, but more longer tough tote that will be a better fit for my 4x2 tent. it will give me more height room while still maintaining that huge size for the roots

Nice, last time I did hydro it was stand-alone 5 gallon bubble buckets, they grew huge but that was mostly because they were mislabeled as autos lol. I’m limited by tent height though 6.5ft ceiling so I’ll still try to keep them kind of short by limiting veg time.

I read somewhere you can just cut off branches an leave the plant in... Just get the brqnches holding pollen sacks off.

I just do feminized seeds now. Less waste.

i'd be worried about root rot too if you stress the plants too much

I’ll be running sterile, but I also don’t plan on leaving dying stumps in my totes. That sounds like a recipe for disaster. Would be curious to see how revegging in hydro works but I’m keeping clones so that won’t be necessary.
