I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm glad Dan/Timber have found a new business model. Partnering with build a soil should elevate the lights profile.
That being said, I'm feeling like a guinea pig in regard to the 1st generation Magnolia. That light had some short comings that have been addressed in the new Magnolias. Early this year Timber built 50 of the the first generation Magnolias. Many of us bought that light based on Timbers reputation. I feel like that light was an experiment. Some things worked well others, not so much. That light runs hot, does not have waterproofing and the boards are different. More powerful and increased spectrum bandwidth.
I'm feeling a bit duped and I'm hoping Timber steps up and makes things right for the people that invested in what should have been a fully vetted light before releasing it on a wide scale. Feels like I bought an inferior product compared to the new one.

They’ve always sold through build-a-soil, even before the rebrand, im sure they will launch their own site before too long. As for the technical differences, I noticed that too, and while I’m sure the OG magnolia 4 is a great light, I couldn’t help but be relieved that I didn’t end up getting one before they shut down
. And I just don’t know, I’d have to look at more than just the picture of the 6 board fixture, but from the picture the way the boards are oriented looks like the light spread wouldn’t quite be as efficient as an HLG scorpion setup.
Timber format: = = =
HLG format: ll ll ll
I’m no expert at all though, and I know Dan is, and I’m sure it covers the footprint nicely.
