Need LED decision help from light nerds

LED's are the best. Cooler, less electricity, silent. This light does not compare to the 1000 watt hps you have now. This new lamp will blow the lid off that old relic. You will no longer have that massive heater in your tent. LED's drivers still get hot but a small fan blowing on it will keep the driver cool to the touch. Which LED lamp you decide on will be a great decision over hps.
I don't know this lamp. I wonder about the driver and how it compares to the standard Meanwell driver.

Incandescent lamps are cheaper to buy but they throw off a lot of heat, they incur maintenance costs, you've got to duct away all of the heat, due to the heat they generate, they have to be kept well above the canopy height, and they use significantly more power than an of comparable output.

LED's are more expensive up front but they use far less power and, since they don't give off infra red light, they don't heat the plants the way an incandescent does so you can run your light at a low hang height, 12" being not uncommon.

The Covert light looks a lot like other lights that are sold by resellers - good features, nice spectrum, and can be daisy chained but the PPFD map is not as strong as other lights in this class.

PPFD = the number of photons (light particles) hitting a square meter every second. It's measured in micro moles (µmols). Think of it as an "inches of rain per hour" measurement.
Cannabis will absorb and use up to 800 to 1000 µmols of light. That's called the "light saturation point". The Covert light can generate about 900µmols across a 2' x 2' area in the center of the light. That's in the PDF that you can download from the product page. Once you get outside that, it's 600 on the sides and even less in the front, back, and corners. You should provide at least 500µmols to your cannabis plants. This light will do that in all places except for the corners. Those number look similar to other grow lights from resellers and you can grow a good crop with those numbers.

Research tells us that there is a linear relationship between light levels and plant quality, crop yield, and crop quality. Put another way, if you've got good genetics and if the rest of your grow is squared away, the more light you give cannabis, up to the light saturation point, the more weed you get.

With that in mind, in this price range and in the 4' x 4' class, this light is hard to beat. If you look through those PPFD charts, what stands out is that the light put out an incredibly even light cast at all hang heights from 8" to 24". It's really something.

I have no connection to Spider. My grow is in a 2' x 4' tent and I have bought 4 lights since I started growing, none of which are Spider Farmer brand. I just think they've done a great job with this light.

Hello,
I want to buy this:

I am using 1000 hps, will this replace it? Do leds suck? I am a nerd as well, not throwing any shade, I heart all of you.

Thanks
The Covert pro looks like a well designed fixture with deep heatsink fins and quality LEDs.

You can get 850 watts with 8 bars cheaper here. They frequently have something on sale with a steep mark down. I got their 320 watt system for $295 USD in June 2022.

I am leaning towards the spider farmer se7000. I am still not sure if jumping into 4x leds is the prudent thing to do, however, you guys are helping me alot with this decision.

Don't know what kind of budget you're working with but, I've got nothing but good things to say about the #Ez8 from @MedicGrow or the @Spiderfarmerled SE1000W. Honestly I can't crank either of them to 100% i don't have my ventilation perfect just yet and I don't run Co2 (both lights are made expecting Co2 supplement) they are a little costly, but both are beautiful lights.

Also check out the "In it to Win it" section. I won both of these lights from sponsors/ advertisers here on RIU.

So many lights in the price range as the one you asked about. Personally I'd look at what others here use and like. Consider a company that has solid warranty and CS. LEDs are very reliable but if something does happen it's nice to be able to actually talk with someone in real time. My vote goes to HLG, many growers here use them and CS is great. First time switching over to LEDs you will have to adjust to adjust how you grow. With the community here that uses them help is only a thread away. Good luck!

I like this light also:

However, they don't list the brand of diodes and that makes me nervous. The price of the grow light science is comparable to the spider farmer, with better par readings.
Spider is using Samsung LM301B LED's and an in-house driver. Yeh, it's a "data point" that the Progrow doesn't specify the LED brand or the driver but that wouldn't be a show stopper for me.

My issue with the Progrow is the PPFD readings. The Spider has a very uniform cast, starting at 8" hang height. As HH increases, so does uniformity.

For the Progrow, at 32", the map looks pretty good. It's not in the same league as the Spider but it's workable. Consider the Progrow at 18" vs the Spider at 18". The Progrow drops by 33% at the sides and by 66% in the corners whereas the Spider looks to be 8% high in the front left and 5% low in the back right corner. That's amazing.

I bet the Progrow's LED driver is made by uPowerTek. My driver is at the lower right corner.

Have you done a run with that light yet? I'm tempted to try their 120 day guarantee. I prefer growing in separate 2x4 tents instead of 4x4 so I can harvest every two months and I've been looking for a light with good spread and efficacy for the area to replace my HLG Elite 360s. No problems with those lights but would like a bit better spread.

The Chilled Growcraft X3 and this Progrow 320 look good, but the latter is way cheaper.

I ran the Progrow 320 at full power for 12 hours per day, for 72 days in a 4x2. I received my driver DC extension cable the last week of flower.

Progrow 320's 120 day risk free return wont be exercised by me. I'm happy with my purchase.

I've paid for my purchase and get nothing for commenting about this product.
