would it be more efficient to run my 2 luxx 645 in a 4x8 instead of a 5x10. They recommend a 4x4 area per light but I've always had good success in a 5x5. Moving to a place where the average for electricity is about 14 cents/ kwh so I'd like to know if it'll be more cost efficient in a smaller tent

I’d go with the 5x10 if my space allowed. You don’t have to fill the entire tent with plants if you don’t want, and have some room to move. If you want you fill the tent, which is what I would do, the lights will work just fine if you’ve already been using 1 for a 5x5.

Just a guess because I don't know for sure, but I feel like if you are going to try to stretch the growspace, it's the growth space, the five-by-five would probably work better it's really worked better because it's only 6" further on the spectrum all the way around. If you go to the 4 by 8, then you have your 4' foot foot breathe one way but then you're trying to stretch that light 4' the other direction or 2' each way if you put it in the middle. So, Just by reasonable deducting, and no scientific proof, my guess is the 5 by 5 would be the way to go. Unless of course you plan on buying a second light to match and in the 4 by 8 would be a perfect fit.

Size of the tent isn't going to change the cost of running the lights.

What size inline exhaust are you running? What is your electrical limits at your service box? Size of room your putting this grow tent in? Will this tent also have an extended roof (such as a Gorilla tent)? More head room to the tent let's you grow taller plants. To go that large requires changes but, if your going to continue to run out of it, might as well set it up right. I read about people all the time. I can't run my lights at 100%. I currently run a sf4000 + a king 250= 700 wall watts. All drivers inside the tent. People say the sf4000 runs hot. To counter the heat I run an AC Infinity 8 inch inline, 1 16inch oscillating fan, 1 tower fan and 3 4 inch fans. I can run 100% power. If your going to go bigger it's going to take some dialing in. I vent my heat out doors as well. Set up is critical. Good luck!

Exactly what I was about to say. Bigger space means more space to produce in. However I believer more light is needed to power a 5x10. I’m running 660w in a 4x4 once I see flowers.

Not familiar with the light, so let's say if it's a bar light with pretty even distribution of light you can lower it closer.
Yes you are only going to be running at 25.8w per square foot , I've seen some if the guys who first pioneered strip lights hit very good numbers using only 25w per square foot.
My guess is you will produce a bit more in a 5x10 over a 4x8 even using g the same light.
For me space is a limiting factor , as in to hit my best figures things are a bit cramped and not much light gets past the canopy.
I'd try both ways to be honest.
And lucky you paying 14cent a kwh, sounds like that expensive for you but my rates about to go up to 60p per kwh
