HPS vs CFL

I grew one crop with a 400w HPS and got to paranoid about having it in a closet in my house because everyone who came in heard my fans runnning, so for my next crop i want to move my setup in the attic but the HPS and ballast make to much heat for me to feel comfortable leaving it on around all the insulation in my attic so i was wondering can i get the same results with CFL bulbs and do they produce much heat, also i have been hearing about the LED grow light panels has anyone heard anything on thier performance?

LED is great to have compared to HPS or CFL's. they dont produce nearly as much heat or energy as a HPS light does.

stay away from LED I have read some bad stuff on them and when it comes down to it the LED just dosent penetrate the leafs CFL's would be your best bet there is some great new CFL bulbs at the home depot.:-o:hump:

Don't waste your money on the LED's. I did and they are only useful for veg. There is no comparison with HPS, it is the best by a mile. One option is to make your room much bigger than it needs to be. So the heat has someplace to go. Also you can run your lights less like only 8 hours a day and then do 24/7 on or 12/12 with a small CFL. This way you can run your loud big light from midnight to 8am and not run it at all if you have friends over late. You will get better yield than with CFL's. That is my my opinion.

I have rooted clones under a LED panel, it worked great. Vegging under LED's would be ok if you had a decent amount of them. Flowering not so much. look into getting a smaller HPS like a 250. For the money you pay for all the CFL's you could get a decent 250 digital ballast - silent opperating, Lower heat and electric from the ballast.

Plus- you can run standard MH bulbs on this ballast!

I have spent well over that on CFL's. I could kick myself looking back now.

In respones to ur original question bro check out the following link for what to expect:
https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/126559-newbie-answers-lighting-hpsvscfl-during.html

Then check this out for whatever info u seek regarding whats really neccesary for flowering plants..
https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/136065-lumens-sq-ft-required-stealth.html

Make a stand and prop ur ballast up on it... Long as its secure and safely away from the insulation u should be fine...Dont take the hps from flower unless ur able to accept the yields that HPSVSCFL or any other LIGHTING has to offer...

I heard it best when it was said by another grower here...That comparing a cfl to hps Is like lighting a cig lighter and placing it to the sun...

Read and reread those threads bro all ur answers lie within.
