Purple? Strain or Growing Process?

I have this ongoing argument with a friend of mine about how "purple" is grown.

I was told that to get "Purple" when the buds are just coming out, you take a needle and bruise the buds. I'm not sure if this is correct but this is what I was told.

Is it the way you grow it? or can you plant "Purple haze" "purple skunk" "purple"....
You get what I mean.

The plants leaves turn puple when grown due to the traits of the strain.
There are also many other colors of weed.
Red,orange,purple,white,gold etc.

the climate is what makes them purple most of the time if they have purple traits. From what ive read and seen lowering the temp not sure if its both during day and night will turn buds more purple. I also just read an article on purple strains being all the rage in calli or florida cant remeber it was good, went into the genetics and how it all works it was in high times or somthing in the last month or 2

I grew some God Bud and some of it was purple. Other growers I talked to on message boards said that some of thiers had purple traits too. Here is a picture.

It's not really a purple strain but occasionally they have purple traits.
This is correct. When the buds started to form and they were dark, I thought something was wrong with my plant. I posted some questions on this and other message boards, and several people said that some of thier God Bud had purple traits. Its doesn't always happen, but it is very rewarding when it does. Thanks:peace: .

That just blows my mind. That has to be the most beautiful MJ I've ever seen. Did I read somewhere purple tends to be less potent? It's just awesome looking.

Plants are what they are if you have a purple strain its gonna be purple if you let it.alot of people harvest too early, and dont let it change.but on the other hand I like harvesting my Grand daddy purple early...better high!!

there are hundreds of strains that will go purple...my 'purples' go black! the trick is natural here on the central coast- nighttime temps below 55 degrees....most of the year...right now they barely get purple.

Any strain can be made purple this way to an extent. I've got some purple sour diesel right now from doing this.

I don't think the potency is any different, just judging by the nepali...it's more green right now, and the high is the same...maybe the flavor is better more purple...people are just dorks...they'll take super purple looks and taste over something that isn't pretty, yet knocks you on your ass!

I just had a white widow cross finish and it got a bit of purple even though temps are in the high 80's. It does turn much more purple with a cold snap though. it's genetics mostly that can be affected by environment. People can also "dye" the plant with food coloring. Purple max and a few other products out there are supposed to help turn them purp, But i think that product is also a bud hardener. I grow organic so those last two things are just what I've heard. search for purple max and i'm sure you'll find threads here.
