I agree that that man is a willful agent of destruction. I still contend that he is the illusionist’s “moving hand”, distracting from the doings of the other hand.

But in the order of things, he is the pawn whom we watch, while the bishops and queens run the game.
Absolutely, he is the moving hand that gets watched while other things go on: I merely wanted to point at his ability to be an existential threat *as well*

Am I missing something? The two are tautologous. Naturally not all the rich are finding the churches’ sword-arm.
I may well have expressed it badly - even erroneously.
I’ll look into it.

In case it helps, I was already thinking it terms of how Europeans ended up revolving around kings, merchants, and priests: the three estates, they were called IIRC.

As I recall it, the crowns sought wealth thru conquest & division of spoils (landed aristocracy w/ men at arms) and royal favors; they exercised control via politics, ‘diplomacy’ & bribes. Merchants sought wealth through profit and market advantage, gained power by controlling goods and thru royal patronage, and exercised control of markets and shipping. The RCC gained wealth through patronage & pew rents, usw; gained power by exercising control over the people, and exercised control by threat of damnation, burning at the stake, excommunication, and inquisition.

As I understand it, the three co-operated every bit as much as they struggled against each other: and looking at today in the US, I see the same competitive co-operation at work…except that I see MORE of a unified front today, as politics, business, and churchianity lean as hard as they can on the public for the purpose of (in essence) rolling back the 20th century - to their shared benefit and increase of…wealth, power, and control.

I didn’t mean to suggest that there aren’t wealthy *believers*, but that believers don’t run the game - and that the church‘s increase in wealth is via donations (and much of its power is in *making* financial contributions), in just the same sense that OO’s wealth is currently driven by…donations from believers…IN HIM.

But as they’re in league, it all goes somewhat into the same pocket, operationally.

That may not make anything clearer, but it is at least the line of my thought: roughly co-equal factions, working toward similar goals, but each working for their own ascendancy, too.

I won’t tire you further with this: if you can make anything out of it, that’s a success.
I will digest the rest at leisure, with a note if thanks. Your post will give me an afternoon of thought. It is the Internet equivalent of a neighbor stopping by with a torte made from scratch.

More frivolously, “magnum opus” made me think of the eponymous progressive penguin. Since I cannot find a pic of him holding an appropriate revolver, I need turn elsewhere for mirthful metaphor.

That may be the highest praise I’ve received for my writing…I appreciate it.

surely someone has mentioned Opus, from Bloom County, by now, but just in case!

It will take me time to digest your magnum opus. I will home in on two excerpts.

But enough of them are (as a supplement to the obscene wealth being fleeced off the fearful faithful) to advance the program.

He takes the tablecloth as he walks away- nothing more infantile than that.

is it wrong to hat this makes me so happy?

Right on cue. Blame, blame, blame, victim, victim, victim, unfair, unfair, unfair. Who the hell would want to represent this knowing he will blame everyone around him, not listen, lie, drive off clients, and ruin a reputation through malice?

I don't have the malignant narcissist playbook in front of me but isn't it getting close to burn it all down time?
