Going with Pro Mix BX this grow - what else to add?

I have done FFOF last three grows, I have a bale and a half of Promix BX leftover from my outdoor pepper garden so I figured I'd give it a shot indoors. For my peppers I did 2/3 Promix 1/3 compost and some worm castings. Would I want to do the same thing for my indoor? Or just do the Promix and castings? I'll be feeding MegaCrop if that makes a difference - fabric 5g pots.
Thanks!

HP user here and I have never added dry amendments - including extra perlite. I fill my 5 gallon buckets with Pro Mix HP right out of the bale and feed with Remo liquid nutes when it's time. I will pH the feed water to between 6.0 and 6.2 as Pro Mix likes it slightly more acidic.

HP out of the bale works great for cloning too.

I use Promix. When feeding with Megacrop, I lean more towards a soilless mix and use Power Bloom to finish. May be my OCD but I sift my Promix to get rid of the dust, pre-charge with calmag, 10% amendments concentrated at the bottom layer of pot.

Good shit , good choice ! Prices have climbed of course over last couple of years......think I paid 32$ for last 3.8 cubic meter bale from the Amish........well worth the money.ive only used the Mycohrizza version......how does the " BX" differ?

Added Vermiculite.

I think you meant 3.8 cubic feet. 3.8 cubic meters is a big bale of peat.

The HP is their High Porosity version which does not contain vermiculite - but it does contain added perlite for better drainage. Even with the extra perlite, there has never been the need to water a 5 gallon pail more than once every 4 days.

PRO-MIX BX is a general purpose growing medium, compared to PRO-MIX HP which is a High Porosity growing medium. These products are the same in pH and chemical properties. The difference is that PRO-MIX HP contains a higher percent of perlite than PRO-MIX BX

Cross posted from my Journal but may contain some useful information

Day 24, one week from transplant !

Before I forget, again, I should mention.

Due to circumstances both of my two auto grows with a total of six plants started with the seedlings under an 85w CFL bulb with a color temperature of 5500K for roughly 21 days before transplanting into ProMix HP.

Then under a 600w Metal Halide with a color temperature of 4200K.

One went five weeks before the move to the bigger light and yielded 13.2oz. in a 2g plastic pot with AN M/G/B nutrients !

The Ladies ranged from 3' to 4' and finished between 90 to 120 days.

Yields ranged from 6oz. to 11g short of a pound !

Last grow, 3g fabric pots with ProMix HP, MC one part. A few additions of Bud Explosion.

Done.

Looks like this is turning into a plug for ProMix HP

Blame it on the Gellato bongsmilie

It is buffered so if your water isn't too much out of wack, there is no need to ph.

It contains Mycorrhizae which >
  • Improves fertilizer uptake; reduces fertilizer costs
  • Increases the resistance of plant to stresses; reduces maintenance costs
  • Optimizes results without changing growing practices
  • Increased root mass, flower production, plant size, yield
  • Improved water uptake and increased drought resistance

The porosity is such that you can't overwater. It only holds so much before running off.

And it's a breeze to flush if you have to,

You CAN water too often, I leave the pots to feel DRY before watering again.

Best to judge by picking the pot up.

I don't fully water until the plants are able to drink what they've been given in three or four days. Right now that's 2L.

It contains no nutrients so you have Total control over the feed !

And $37 for a bale here.... 107L/60#. about 8 x 3gallon pots. $5/pot.

As I said, Day 24, seven days from transplant.

Amnesia auto.

I like your idea of pre-charging it with calmag. I might try that. It takes a while for the lime in the Promix to really kick in.
