Medium staying wet for too long?

I currently have a seedling vegging in a 1 gallon plastic nursery pot. It's about 50/50 peat/perlite with lime. I fed/watered it to runoff once ~2 weeks ago, and it's still nearly the same weight as when it was saturated. It seems to be growing fine, but should I be concerned about it staying this wet for so long?

A seedling on a one gallon takes a long time to build a root base
Next time start in a beer cup
For quicker growth

I prefer to start in smaller containers too, they dry out faster and are harder to "overwater". It's okay if your pot stays heavy for a long time, just go by weight and water it when it gets light.

Also from my experience the "water until runoff" only kicks in when you are truly in the veg stage. During seedling stage it's more about providing enough water to keep it damp but not wet and never dried out (soil pulling from sides of container).
You can certainly start in a larger pot but it can be easier to start in a solo and work up.

thank you guys! is it the faster dryback in smaller pots that increase the rate of growth?

also, if I start in a bigger container, could I get away with not saturating the medium without experiencing nutrient issues?

Yes you can treat it like an auto and just water around it lightly and increase water as it increases in size but as has been mentioned you typically see faster growth starting in smaller and up-potting.

Many go solo, 1gal, 3gal, 5/7gal, etc all depending on your end goal.

A smaller pot is better but you're not gonna drown a plant in a 50% perlite mix.

Much longer if the pots too big. I go from propagator pods to 11oz pots to 5 gal growbags. Don't mean to but in. I learned this early on. Trying to help.
And I guess I missed the joke also.

Yes I transplant all my plants, autoflowers included. Didn't mean to derail the thread. You brought up autoflowers and a terrible way to water plants. Sorry, should have just said that. Don't want people to think what you suggested is a good watering practice.

As to the OP, @cryologist it seems almost impossible for a 50% perlite mix to stay wet for two weeks. Do you have pictures of the plant in question?
