It's on going, tomarrow will be 5 weeks, and I should have some more pics in the pm some time.

Hey man,

Are the 27 watt daylight CFL's that have about 1600 lum each low profile and low heat output? Would they fit in a stealth pc case style grow?

I think a four foot shop light would be too big, though 5000 lumens would be sweet

A 400 watt HPS is out of the question due to heat issues in such a small space. Of course if I did have the space an HPS would definately be the best bet.

I currently have (not set-up) 3 x 9 watt Energy Efficient CFL bulbs that are 400 lums each. They were very cheap and an impulse buy. They will at least keep the plant in veg for the moment, as it is just a sprout. Due to limited space the energy efficient bulbs can be placed closer to the plants to prevent stretching. I also intend to LST the plant to maximise light distribution and conserve yet more space.

Two 27 watt daylight CFL lights sounds like my best bet i'll look into it. I live in the UK and haven't found a sufficient wattage bulb yet. It is a small space however.

I already know about light temperature from Uni but thanks man. The 'temporary' 400 Lum CFL are 2700k. I got that right at least  I'm using an LED mixed Blue and Red bulb at the moment on my first grow.

As far as the environment being correct it has Mylar lined walls and the
humidity and temperature haven't been measured yet as I have just started my grow.

I don't wanna take up any more space on this thread so if any one has any good advise for me come over to my first grow journal:bigjoint:

The tallest is an AK48 at about 9 inches, shortest is an afghan at about 6 inches, the rest are about 8 inches. I'll probably be LSTing the AK48s tomarrow and ill be sure to take some before and afters.

Will be cutting the light back from 20/4 down an hour each day and go into 12/12 next tuesday, after I chop down the males I'll do a pot in pot transplant of the females into 3 gallon pots, kick back and watch the show.

Cool. But I can't seem to find any that are much higher wattage. The ones I have are energy saving because I read that it helps in terms of both electricity and light distribution. Are there any energy efficient lightbulbs that output enough lumens?

here is a source for the cfl bulbs. i'm not trying to endorse them as i was looking at the charts trying to decide how and what and many i need whether or not cfl,hps

Well the reccomended watts/sq.ft. is 40-50 watts...

If a person is growing in a 4 foot sq. area...How would U break watts down into watts/ cubic ft...
My total watts/square ft is like 66.7 and my plants usually finish flower around 3-4 feet and in my experience ive found the more of the right light the better...

Im sorry just on another dro journey and trying to figure out how to cram enuff hps lighting into my flower area to obtain 50 watts/cubic ft. if its even possible!

ok now ya got me thinkin... and it's not good thing.... lol

I got a 400watt HPS in about 8Sq Ft area.... what kinda lumen am I lookin at... *your the math guy LOL* :P

oh and the way I have my setup I can have them within 8 inches of my plants so.... yeah if you wanna work out the lumen per cubic ft that would be cool too lol!

LOL I suck @ math..
But I think somehow I figured it out how to get cubic watts/sq.ft...
We've established that in an 8 sq.ft. area with a 400 watt hps Ur looking at 50 watts/sq.ft.
To get cubic watts you would have divide 4 into that 50 which ends up 12.5 watts/cubicft.
And prolly looks like this (400/8sq.ft.=50watts/sq.ft./4=12.5watts/cubicft.)

ON EDIT: U would need 1600 watts in an 8 foot square grow area to obtain 50watts/cubicft.
IM Working on how to figure actual number of sq.ft Contained inside of an actual grow area..
(LXWXD) would give us actual cubic ft. contained inside an area I think..
I know there are some super stoner math guys floating around to take a look at this.

HMM this still doesnt sound right tho cuz U would need to factor in actual hieght of the bottom of the hood to the bottom of the plant and get the actual sq.ft. area ur plants are growing in and under to truly get an acurate cubic watt measurement!

I guess to figure actual lumens/cubic foot You would have to know the lumens output usually stamped on the lamp and replace that with the watts # and follow the previous equation.

Dont ask me how I came to this conclusion..IM not even sure if its right but sounds right! LMAO
