Done Training and Topping - Need to defoliate??

Ok, I'm in week 5 of Veg. Just did (last Saturday) what training I'm going to do this round (first grow) to the best of my skills at this point and did some additional topping and fimming as well and not planning to do any more of that either for this grow. This little 3x3 is looking a little cramped already (to me).

Based on these pics, should I (after waiting maybe a week for the shock to be over from all the work last weekend of course) do any defoliation to make sure that everyone is getting enough light? OR should I wait and see what all these new tops are going to do and just be patient. Doe the light penetration matter even as much during veg as it it definitely does in flower?

Thanks!

Even in veg plants need to transpire adequately for optimal growth and to aid in preventing pests/disease. If you find that many of your large fans are resting on others or on your node sites it’ll be beneficial to do some selective pruning. Don’t go crazy with it like some people do after all these are your solar panels, but for sake of optimal air flow and transpiration I would begin even now taking 5-8 a day over the next few weeks as it looks like you’re ready to flip light cycles. Remember you’re still gonna have your final stretch in that two week transition and after that I would avoid any major defoliation, but remove problem fans as needed. Some people go crazy with this and strip it down a ton which I think is foolish because you need a healthy amount of fans for not only photosynthesis but they are your tell tale signs for deficiencies and allow you early warning as opposed to waiting to see them on sugar leafs which in my opinion is detrimental to your overall yield.

cheers, happy growing
