Just picked up a banger bucket and pid controller. I'm sick of guessing the temps. Actually surprised I haven't gotten one already!

These are the guys I got my press and supplies from. I've had good responses from them on tech support. They seem to be the best priced by far than any other online source. Damn near DIY price and all assembled.

I got their 7x7 20 ton. Unfortunately, their 30 ton has been out of stock. Hoping that they'll help me upgrade it, when they get more. He told me that they're working on some bigger prepress boxes. I asked them for 6.5x6.5, but I highly doubt they planned on going that big! Got my fingers crossed for a special custom prepress box coming soon, lol. Mad Props yo ;-)

Oh my goodness, I love having the controllers! I used cheap Harbor Freight temp guns for years. For a bit I was using a setup that my buddy MacGyver built using a digital toaster oven for the PID. It only heated up one plate though. So we'd put them together while warming up to transfer the heat. Now I feel so spoiled with this awesome big beast I got! Making Golden Waterfalls baby!!!

Have any of you calculated your cost to produce a gram of rosin? I've had my eye on a Lowtemp Plates press (as well as everything needed to grow), but totally decent rosin in my town just dropped to $40.06/gram including tax and before any discounts (as low as $32.48/gram).

It costs me nothing other than bags and parchment paper. I grow the weed. I don't sell it. I don't buy weed.
I could smoke a gram in a night no problem. The weed will be there one way or another. If I have to much I'll make hash and press some/make BHO. Everyone who smokes my concentrates says it's some of the best they've tasted.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. Obviously you're growing and then pressing, and not having to purchase the material. Does it cost you less than $40 to grow enough to produce a gram of rosin?
Last time I attempted to run the numbers, I calculated I would need to harvest six pounds a year to keep up with my rosin intake, assuming a 15% yield and pressing flower. When rosin was $70/g here it made sense to purchase the equipment to grow/press, but now that a gram is half that I just don't know. Of course growing/pressing your own is more satisfying, but my wife might not view my satisfaction as worth the outlay on equipment and necessary space.

Like I said up there I'm just finding it difficult to source plates other than amazon and I see on the dabpress website they have the 3x5 plates on sale for 199.99 usd. So I know Amazon's hosing me @430$
Alibaba for plates, if doing DIY. Shipping takes a while but cost is low to offset shipping. Prob get it cheaper that way…

I grow weed because I like to. Also because I like to smoke it and I prefer to smoke my own and know what is going into it.
I don't really do the math on it. Costs (after initial startup $) are power, nutes, seeds and medium. I get a few pounds of weed and a buttload of trim each run. I use the trim and some lowers that I wouldnt have smoked anyways, to make bubble hash or BHO. (I'm just on a rosin kick right now.) So I duno costs me a couple hundred bucks for a few pounds of flower, a brick of hash and a pile of bubble hash rosin. It would cost me 100-150 bucks a week buying it at 30/g and that's not even counting what I volcano, smoke joints/bongs with.
It's also not as simple as doing the math on it. You need to find a strain that makes alot of resin. Well ripe heads that is.

I know what's in mine.

Thought about that but wanted to get quality plates. Never used Alibaba before
Cnc aluminum blocks, heating elements and a controller. You provide press. Harbor freight for press. Same materials as assembled in USA... My king rites are from Alibaba and still going strong after 2.5 years! But your call

Did you get them anodized?

Dont own, just window shopping for future. Alibaba doesn't seem to have any listed or I'm not wording it correct. Just do a search for rosin press diy and it'll bring up a bunch of options. Anodized, caged, various sizes. I saw one 3x5" dual heat anodized with power cables and supply for 178

If you want to go true diy on the press just make your own plates it’s super easy and all materials are readily available. You can get the cartridge heaters and pid controller off of Amazon. And then go to metal super market for 1” bar stock aluminum which you can get it cut to whatever size you’d like. I took mine to a machine shop in town and they drilled the holes in the aluminum for the cartridge heaters and temp probe of the pid controller. You want the hole size to be fairly precise so the cartridge heaters heat plates efficiently and the temp probe reads accurately. After that it’s some basic wiring and your good to go. The good thing about doing this is you can make your plates to whatever size you like.

That's what I was originally thinking. But it still would be nice to get them anodized. It's more than just a color.

I still think it would be cheaper on dabpress website with sale and coupon code. At least close to the same price after you buy the pid and heating cables etc and saves you from having to buy the plates get them cut etc. If you want custom plates then ya I could see that would.be better but bigger plates won't be effective without a larger size press which costs more etc....

Yeah your probably right but I enjoy making things myself. I built mine a couple of years ago when the price of pre made presses was quite high. I have the same press as you which I got on sale. Best part of maximum tools is they are always on sale. I think I got the press for 50% off which certainly kept the price of things down. The bar stock was actually pretty cheap and cartridge heaters are stupid cheap. I think all told I was less than $450 for a 10 ton press fully made, and at the time that would’ve cost me close to a grand for something similar.
