Bud rot strikes....

I just found one bud with rot in.... I carefully cut the whole stem and put it in the bin.

My room is about 25- 26c. And about 65 rh. I'm in week 7.

I have repositioned the fan so that plant gets more air flow... I think it was in a bit of a blind spot.

Anyway... my question is... does bud rot like warm or cold environment or is it just about humidity?

I got some really dense buds this time... worried about the rest.

Honestly, you can have a ton of air circulation and low RH and still get budrot, especially if the buds are big and dense. I had this exact problem in a few of my biggest colas on my last grow. Some strains just create bud structures that are more prone to it. After you dry, carefully take each cola apart from the bottom up, and look at each nug under a scope for any fuzz, sometimes it can be hard to see. But start with lowering your RH to 50 or so.

Mold happens when the conditions are right cool nights with high humidity so best thing to do is try to keep your lights and lights off temps writhing 10 degrees at most. I shoot for like 5 degrees and this has helped me a bunch with PM also air flow is very important so once you can get those things in check should help. Maybe try a mold resistant strain next run

My temps are tight....

It's a pheno hunt... so maybe I'll no keep that one... dam shame coz it smells amazing.

If you feed multiple times a day, dont water right before lights off, do it a few hours before.
In my experience growing outdoor in a high humidity environment, if I water in the evenings my plants will display guttation and start exuding water through the leaf tips. In flower, it can push water through the sugar leaves and put moisture inside your buds that can lead to bud rot. Thats my hypothesis anyway.

65-90% humidity is wicked high in flower.
Totally agree its too high... I knew this I guessni was just pushing my luck coz everything looked so healthy

I water once a day when lights go on.

This, I live in the Midwest and it can be tough to even follow a vpd chart in flower, when I run in the range no matter how much airflow I get going I still end up with powdery mildew following the curve. I've even windburned my plants trying to get the airflow high enough. Granted that's only with one problematic strain but it's something that people want kept around so I just drop down to like 50-55 Rh and run a little out of the optimal range after like week 4 of flower. I later asked a friend who consults commercially here and he said it was common practice to do here in those grows as well because of the mold/mildew tests and the cost of failure being too high.

There are a lot of armchair grower's that are going to tell you it's on you or that you're not actually following the charts etc but every environment is different and not all strains are created equal in terms of resistance.

Perfect answer.

Bud rot is serious issue in va beach. Temps and humidity are all over the place. Have problems with keeping grow tent in garage temps and humidity correct. New upstairs seems to be better and more manageable. It just really sucks.
When I lost another fat Oz of Oange bud Auto today.
I don’t do a whole lot of posting on social media. Grow smart everybody. Good info is good.

I'm going to drop this here because I didn't see anyone mention bud washing. If you have mold or mildew you definitely want to wash your buds before drying. Spores could be anywhere you dont want to smoke that period. Just remove buds infected and throw away wash all other buds in a mix of 2gallons tap water room temp. And 1 32oz of peroxide. Dunk buds for 15 to 30 seconds each. The peroxide will kill the spores mold mildew. If you have any of that on buds you'll have a film build up and may have to skim water to clean before doing more buds. After dunking have another 2 gallons tap water and do the same thing to rinse. You can have a 3rd same tap water if you feel the 1 rinse wasnt enough. or if growing outdoors youd have a 2nd with baking soda and lemon or lime juice that'll get bugs caterpillars all kind of nasty shit bug eggs, dirt etc. Once rinsed hang in front of a box fan until theres no more water visible on buds and buds feel dry to touch. Then just dry as normal. This does extend drying time but you'll have a bud you can feel comfortable smoking, even with bud rot growing next door. I dont bud wash my indoor grows being in a sealed environment they stay fairly clean, but I wash all my outdoor plants, we have dust storms and all kinda shit crawling on plants shitting pissing and laying eggs i ain't smoking that lol

water needs to be room temp if it's too hot you'll damage trichomes.

1/8 to 1/4 cup for the baking soda and lemon or lime juice in 2gallons water if anyone needs that.

I've got a really humid climate 70/75% is the best I'll see for the year 85/95% isn't unusual.
During flowering I'll very rarely if at all see below 60% in my tent that's with a dehumidifier running so I'm reluctant to think rot is purely a matter of humidity because I've not had it during flower for years now.

Mould spores are everywhere all the time so I assume healthy plants can resist/fight them but if the plants get injured/burnt dead or dying leafs it gives mould the chance to take hold.

Plant health is the most important factor... That's my hypothesis anyway only based on my observations over the years.

I pruned it back and 3/4 days later.

That's the 1st rot/mould I've seen in years I'm guessing the pruning gave rot/mould the opportunity to take hold and the warm humid environment helped it establish, I'm much less fussed about humidity during veg I didn't know rot/mould was a thing outside of flowering lessons learned!

FYI I did save it, I cloned the shoots that are still propped up and I'll be flowering them soon.

Thanks for responding RIU people. Had humidity at 50 or below. Not enough airflow possibly?. Tent gets an exchange of house air about every minute. But cheap clip fans make too much heat. Going to do something different in the future.
I like the bud wash thing. Did last summer and everybody said the stuff was tasteless. The recipe you gave for Bud wash seems perfect. Thanks Jorge Cervantes . . I understand the chemistry of what peroxide is. And it’s definitely good for stuff stuff like this. I think this main cola was almost too far gone. And I didn’t want to let it spread more and infest other three. .,
Price of weed in Virginia has come way down. Buying from somebody else is seeming more efficient. The heck with my kids and relatives friends and family for getting free weed.
Done venting. Thanks guys and girls.

I've got these right now, all fans are garbage when ran 24/7 I've tried many different ones not just clip but floor oscillating as well. These I linked work well are cheaper than most for quality and fit all poles I'm pretty sure anyways.

Looks like you have rot and also powdery mildew. I wouldn't even bother trying to wash it. Trash or edibles only, IMO. Most likely culpret is lack of ample air movement.
