Dry Ice not cold enough for QWET, what am I doing wrong?

I have 6lbs of dry ice in a 2 cubit foot styrofoam cooler. The temp is currently at 15F after 1 hour.

My freezer measures 0F after about 15 minutes. How much dry ice is actually needed for QWET?

EDIT: After much reading I guess the ice its self is really cold but isnt really good and making its surrounding cold unless its making near direct contact. Oh well, into the freezer I go.

The smaller deepfreezers work the best. On my next QWET I plan to actually put some small pieces of the dry ice into the ethanol.

Hey brother. Hope you're having a good weekend.
My normal freezer has a deepfreeze mode. Made to fill the icemaker in 24 hours. Gets down to -15F. I'm wondering if it's safe to put dry ice in there getting it down to around -80F. I don't wanna mess up the house refrigerator/freezer! I gave my small deepfreeze to my dad, and got the bigger one. I thought I'd be getting more work done with it. Unfortunately, it didn't work out they way. Just to much space to keep super cold. Ran through way to much dry ice, and still couldn't get it cold as I like. whatcha think?

I don't see how -80C would damage the freezer but might be hard on the seals opening and closing it. Consider a cheap heavy Styrofoam cooler.

Ok I've got the generic Yeti cooler from Wal-Mart that will work well then. For some reason I thought it needed to be in a freezer to help the dry ice from melting to fast. But I guess dry ice stays cold enough on it's own. Won't be needing to cool as long anyways though since I'll actually be putting dry ice chunks into the ethanol jars. By the way, about how long will it take the dry ice chunks to melt into the ethanol? Is it gonna make a lot of smoke like when you put dry ice in water?

It will drop the temperature in minutes, and does put out a fog.

You can also bury the alcohol container in the dry ice beforehand to cool it down.

I'm obsessed with this idea. But I've read carbonic acid is produced this way. Searching everywhere for answers on this. It would reduce chilling time and overcome warmup that causes chlorophyll and wax in the extract. Please let us know how this went. TY
