How do you run two rooms from one ballast?

Why does *everything* start/cause a fire?

The HV spike is short, ms if not ns. If a set of contacts do get welded shut, wheres the fire coming from? Only one light will be on anyways. The contacts won't 'single phase' either, its one set or the other. (I work with these things all day long, along with 25KV)

Open up the cord from your ballast to lamp. I bet its rated at 600V.

A ballast sitting in free air outside the grow room is fine. You think all them factories have fans blowing on *each* ballasts sitting up at the ceiling/lamp? (Its warm up there in august in southern Texas)

If the ballast is UL rated, its meant NOT to be fan cooled and is *insured* by UL.

LOL!

yup general population is proof common sense isn't.

Man I said it could be a fire/electical hazard for someone who has no experience to try to wire a timer and relay to a ballast. Thats a fact... Thats great if you work on these things all day long, that just means you have experience, that doesnt mean someone with no experience should try it. Most people on these forums end up here because they have no idea what they are doing, then you find threads with some kid who opened his ballast and wants helping wiring it back together.

I dont know about you, but my prewired 1000w ballasts get hot as hell, and keeping the ballast properly cooled will keep your ballast running more efficient, and it will last longer, just like the bulbs..

I never said you cant run a ballast without a fan....where my ballasts are running theres no airflow, so I use fans, if I didnt it would get way to warm... I would suggest anyone do this if theres no airflow near their ballasts.

I dont remember saying anything about factory lights getting hot, and I really dont care. The comment was for the person who said running a ballast 24 hours would get hot.

Where in the thread does it say any of these ballasts have been UL rated.....man I seriously doubt every grower has new UL rated gear. I have a few 1000w ballasts I no longer use that definetly have no UL rating, I used them for years with no issues.

Man it doesnt matter what the lamp chord is rated for if someone wires the relay and timer wrong.

Why and how? They are designed to withstand Those high bays of factories (that you don't care about)

If you dont have fans blowing on your ballasts to keep them cool you shouldnt be growing weed....Common sence man....
Certainly eluded to it.

Once again, the ballasts are designed to run fine without cooling.

Do don't add to any information, you have spoken?
Nothing wrong with non UL listed (Getting a UL listing is expensive)
(And to play your game) Where did I say you MUST have a UL rated ballast or everything will fail/have issues?

My ballast is UL rated for humid conditions. I don't have a fan on it. Room temps stay just fine.

Holy shit man.

My original point was that someone with no experience shouldnt try to wire a relay and timer to their ballast.....maybe you should keep on topic. Any opinions on that?

And again go back and read the fucking thread, where someone said running a ballast 24 hour would get hot. So I said run a fan on it.....What is your issue with that?

A ballast running at cooler temps would last longer because the fucking heat wont break down the insulation in the wires as fast....the fucking metal in the wires wont break down and corrode as fast....Please, tell me Im wrong again...

I never said anything about must have UL....What you said was a UL ballast would not need to be cooled with a fan, I said I have non UL ballasts, so its a good idea for me to keep them cool.

Instead of arguing why dont you explain to me why a fan on a 1000w ballast is not beneficial in any way...

Dude saying people run ballasts without cooling them is pointless, I never said you cant run a ballast without a fan. Go over it, quote it however the fuck you want, it wasnt said. And Im only refering to 1000w ballasts just to be clear...

And are you honestly gonna try and tell me that running a 1000w or any HPS bulb cooler isnt going to make the bulb last longer? Not only will it last longer, it will burn brighter and a better spectrum.....
