Day off tmrw. Hitting up some rainbows. Should be good. Buddies have been smashing them in the xxxxx river (think I'd tell ya?!) and I'll be heading there dark and early with some fresh loose roe. Slaughter water!

Have you tried power bait?
It's good for rainbows in particular for 33 fish landed over about 6 weeks 32 was with power bait, I tied a dropper to the mainline so the fish always had the option of either a worm or maggot with the power bait.

Where I'm at is diff. BIG river. We use roe, skein, power minnows, beads, I tie streamers and yarn flies but we bottom bounce those. Usually float fishing with a 8-14g float.

I have nothing against power bait but it’s all about the right drift

Well my buddy landed 33 in a couple hours the other day. So double digits days are nothing round here in the spring. If you can't land 20 fish you should toss your rod in the water and get a new hobby.
My best day I was 56/75 and I stopped counting. Lol. Literally every drift right infront of our feet.

I used a small treble to begin with but I had a few takes not hook up properly, the fishing wasn't always great sometimes i might not get a take for the day's fishing so I wanted it to count.

I used a piece of foam to mould the power bait around with a single hook hanging from it, the idea being when the fish picked it up it didn't hesitate to swallow it, the 33 fish I quoted were all landed with it i only started counting to see how many I landed before losing one and it was 33 before 1 got off.

It was stocked fish right enough but they were 2/3rd year in the reservoir, I'd love the chance to fish for wild rainbows and steel head our equivalent is sea trout but 9/10lb is a lifetime fish 2/4lb being nearer the average.

Trout are super sensitive fish. If they swallow the hook they are most likely gonna die, especially if you try to remove it. It it's barbed they're super fucker. So if you they swallow it you should just keep it.

If you don't want them to inhale it, use flies or lures. They will still swallow lures sometimes, but not like bait. Fly fishing is the only safe way to catch and release trout if you ask me.

I'm a fan of catch and release. Let the fish get smarter and bigger so there's some big ones like there once was.

Well there's still some monsters here, but that's in Gold Medal Waters that is strickly catch and release with flies only and no live bait (which includes Power Bait) down the road in the South Platte River.

Walleye and warm water fish are more hardy, but trout are some delicate little suckers. I've been a hard core fisherman since I was a tiny kid.

I've probably caught thousands of stocked trout on powerbait since it came out . Rainbows and Brookies mostly , Browns here and there . The past few years I've switched to Gamakatsu size #10 circle hooks , the majority get hooked in the jaw instead of ass deep now .

Steelhead..rainbows. Whatever. They aren't going into saltwater. Just deep lake water. Some stay in the river all summer long. Big debate round here on what's a 'steelhead' or not lol

I was going to mention I had the kids fishing but it was easier to type not mentioning it lol...

I agree with what you've saying about that type of bait fishing but if you're fishing a worm or grub on the move you hook them in scissors more often than not, fishing tight to the bottom isn't my thing.
