To soak or not to soak is the question!

Are you talking about wood chunks and bark? What do you do with the chunks?

I don't use much for starting seeds. I just throw the big stuff back in with the rest of the soil. I start seeds in 2.5" x 2.5" nursery pots. I just screen a couple gallons at a time and use that for when I start seeds. It lasts awhile.

Everyone has a technique they prefer to use. Of course, do whatever works. I had always planted seeds in either rock wool when I did dwc and then soil when I switched to organic soil mix. Then I tried soaking in water and fulvic acid after reading about it somewhere . I tried soaking 3 separate times with not very good results, so I switched back to planting directly in soil and it always works for me. I get my soil moist first, then sprinkle Bio-Ag VAM in the hole before I drop in my seed. When the seed germinates the tap root grows through the VAM. It works for me but like I first said, everyone does it their own wsy. Good luck!

You mean Humic acid and kelp.
That is a mixture for older seeds, when you are afraid their enzymatic activity is waning. But it can do strange things to the tails that appear. Humic acid and kelp, in the right mixture, is rocket fuel for plants.

I was using bio-ag ful power. Which is humid acid. My mistake. I was thinking it was fulvic acid and not a clever name. You are correct.

I use the Ful-Humix. I think it's a combination of fulvic and humic, but mostly humic. The Europe site mentions the fulvic, but I couldn't see it on the US site. I've never used it with seeds, just as a drench. I'm gonna follow along.

i also agree with dropping a seed in prepared medium. Never had a seed not sprout withing 2 or so days (but i've only popped around 20 seeds). 90% of the time i have a seedling that's already broken ground by the time most of my mates have just finished soaking their seed in water to then putting it in a towel...to then put in a root cube...to then put it in a solo cup...to then put it in a 1 gal pot....to then put it in a 3 gal pot. I can skip all those steps no fail by just putting a seed in its finishing pot from day one.

but then again some enjoy the work. Im lazy and remove all unneeded steps lol.

This year I tried GH rapid rooters, tldr: just forked the bottom to aerate and popped em in. I scuffed the seeds a little, soaked them for almost 24hrs first I stuck them pointy end down about 3/4” deep and ripped a 1/8” flake from the corner of the plug to “cap” the hole. I heeded the advice to keep the plugs moist but not too wet. The seeds loved them, and 100% germ. Put them in my soil within a few days. Someone else came up with the idea first, and I think it’s going to be the way I go now.

Well said....growing perpetually as I have for 20 years, makes me happy that I grew up in a farming community where we never heard of soaking seeds or whatever else some seem to believe it takes. I've popped seeds that were in my possession 7+ years...o problem with my simple method...one that has fed the universe for eons. Bet that's what commercial growers do anyway.
But for those hungry to see the miracle of germination that you may get to smoke in a few months....soak your seed, watch the tail develop but handle with extreme care...those tails are delicate and any damage to any part will definitely show later.
The best way though, IMHO, Plant a seed in prepared medium and go smoke a joint.

Seeds in wet paper towel (Viva) into a Ziplock for 30 to 48 hours. 5 squirts in the Ziplock. Keep ‘em warm.
Just planted 4 Jaws Banana Kush f10 beans with tails. Make sure seed is point up or if root is there, point the root tip down. Thirty eight hour, nice tails on 3/4 and that one is cracked.

I'm a planter imo it's just needs attention to detail, keep that medium extremely wet (at all times) and keep a close eye on the temps in your space. your Seeds will love you for it
