RDWC w/ Mykos WP

Hey guys
So I started using Mykos WP in my Res. and now I see build up along pipes. It's brownish I guess but don't stink and my roots are white. Does Mykos or any beni Bacteria like great white cause build up? Is that the bacteria colonizing.

I added some into my system and got the same thing. I could be wrong.. but my understanding is mychorizae fungi mainly help the plants roots better absorb nutrients from soil. Since in hydro the plant always has soluble active forms of nutrients.. it isn't necessary. When adding things like hydrogard.. maybe same stuff as in mykos?.. you are putting in bacteria/fungi that do not harm roots but compete for the same real estate as the bad stuff. if they can out compete the bad stuff all good. I would say as long as your plants are healthy and happy you should be good. definitely make sure you flush some water through the system during res changes so you dont end up with a bunch of organic buildup in there... but i could be wrong.

@infdjedi Thanks! I kinda was thinking bacteria colonizing/buildup aswell. Did my res. change today and rubbed it and it just smelt like the mykos. I had the bad algae build up once and that shit smelt horrible and felt way different.

"Mykos" are intended for soil and not hydroponics. They most often do more harm then good. Buy SouthernAG GFF or go sterile running oxidizers like bleach or h2o2.

There's no medium to inoculate in hydro hence it's pointless to use "mykos".

MYKOS WP: If you want to introduce your already established plant with mycorrhizal fungi, Mykos WP is a great way to add more microbial biology to your growing medium.

Root Drench: Add 3 tbsp of WP per 5-gallons of water and mix thoroughly. Apply at least 2 cups of WP solution to the base of each plant.

Hydroponic Reservoirs: Add 8 tbsp of WP per 50-gallons of water. Keep well-oxygenated/agitated with air stones and/or pump. Repeat process with every reservoir change.

The brow sludge is the carrier agent in GW. I've used GW in RDWC for years, in hot and cold conditions, never had rot, or root problems.

I get a larger harvest with micos. Always have.

We'll have to take your word for it then I guess! It's not a smart thing to compare results between runs, to many variables to make the data legit.

Mykos do nothing in terms of adding yield in DWC, it may have bettered your root zone by killing of bad bacteria cultures but oxidizers could do the exact same thing in a cheap and controlled manner.

Have you ever done a side by side between a sterile and alive system? I'm not claiming anything it's pretty common knowledge on here.

I'm not saying you couldn't use good bacteria cultures to kill of the bad ones with great results but saying one system yields more when the nutrients is in readily available form is laughable at best. There's nothing to inoculate, break down or transport to the roots. I say they are not needed at all if you understand the different ways to operate a hydroponic system.

The roots need to be clean from biofilm and bad bacteria cultures and there's many ways to accomplish just that.

As far as sterile? Yeah, I don't think I can make it sterile.

If you are correct and the micos does not engage the symbiotic relationship with the plant, they still displace any bad bacteria or contaminate, resulting in a healthier plant. Short of a microscopic analysis I couldn't tell you.

Either way, I do get benefits that probably (qualifier) lol, result in a healthier plant with a cleaner root zone and a better harvest.

I swear, it is a significant increase. Maybe it's displacing bad bacteria. All I know is I did much better. More root, more fruit and more jars, my ultimate goal.

With micos I get these thick mats of roots. Without micos they look like feathers, a lot smaller too.
