Hey everyone! I just joined the site and have been recently thinking about growing since I've gotten my own place now and would like to make a small indoor setup that could fit 2-3 maybe 4 plants. I was thinking about going with an LED light setup and wouldn't mind investing for a quality product that I could use for the long term. I have no idea on about any of the LED brands or different types of LED lights so do any of you who have some experience have any recommendations on lights or companies that I should look into? Also If I wanted to grow only 2-3 plants how big of a tent should I get and how strong lights should I get. I really don't plan on going past 3 plants.

I'm the same new grower... I got a vivid led light from UK and it works great cost about £300..i found that a 120cm x 60cm works well for 2 plants in 11 litre pots

I gotta throw my #Ez8 out there. And I would recommend no smaller than a 5x5 tent if you have the room, it runs hot in my 4x4, at 60%. To me She's expensive but thanks to @MedicGrow hosting a giveaway here on RIU, I won my miniature sun. Grows beautiful ladies, and boys as a matter of fact.

Do you have a budget in mind?

2-3 plants could mean anything, you could fill a whole room with them or fill a small tent.

So think about how much weed you need .

Also we have a specific led subsection in indoor growing.

It also may depend on where in the world your based as to what light choice might be best for you.

One bit of advice, stay away from old blurple lights and look for leds using white light, preferably Samsung 301b or equal .

LED is not the only choice, many good lights available so be interesting to know your reason for wanting LED.

Budget would be around $1000-1500, as for the plants I would probably go for auto flowering, something small and simple to start with just to get the experience. I read that LED lights have a low energy cost and low heat output so I would like to go with those. I'm thinking of going with a 2x4 or 3x3 size tent currently, but I'm still doing research and learning about everything. Thank you for your input everyone!

Autoflowers are not for beginners. They sound simpler in theory, but the practice is a little different.

When you are growing under lights you get to be God. With a photoperiod plant you get to control every part of it's life. You get to say when it flowers, you can keep a plant in a vegetative state forever if you wish. Being a beginner, you will screw things up, with a photo that is fine as you can let it veg longer to recover.

With an Auto you have 30 - 40 days of veg time, there is nothing you can do to stop it. If you screw anything up the plant will recover, but that recovery time will come off your overall veg time and will have have a negative effect on the yield.

I have been growing weed off and on for 20 years and I am only just getting to grips with Autos, stick with photos, they are easier.

That's a fair budget , so here's a few companies depending on where you are.

If in Australia then check out growlightsaustralia

USA horticultural lighting group or timber

There's many more but I tend to suggest companies who've come up through this forum or whos lights I own and can vouch for.

In the UK there's diyleduk, who's names probably change, but sells all reputable LEDs this side of the pond.

You will get better suggestions in the LED subsection.
There are just so many good lights these days.

I'd be tempted to go with speedwells advice and use a 4x4 tent because then you've got more room and I don't know many who haven't wanted to expand once they get into the hobby, so buying a 2x4 only to upgrade everything In 6 months can be a waste.
Obviously bigger the space the more the lighting and extraction ect is needed but nothing to say you can't half fill and light that tent and add to it later.

Your right in that LED saves power , as in you can use less watts to light an area , but you need to consider your environment too.
If your in a particularly cold area then you have to heat the space more which is defeating the purpose in some cases.

Here's some rough ideas on LED power consumption for spaces, assuming they are of good efficiency.

2x4 tent , 240w 320w

3x3 tent 320-400w

4x4 tent 480-600w

You can also look at 315 cmh lights if you were in a 3x3 tent.
