Okay, how are you?

A long long time ago in a land now far away I made a cross of a Blue Dream Cut from the West Coast and the Medical Strain I had bred.
I was living in a 20 foot trailer and so space was really tight but I went ahead and made a cross in a very small space.
It was a rush job and that Fem x Fem cross yielded two feminized seeds.
I managed to grow one out enough to get a little bit of bud. Just a sample really but I liked it.

With my medical strain I like to write code and listen to music in that "zone" but with the Blue Dream x that medical strain I enjoyed watching movies. It was a bit emotional in a good way.

This is my attempt to recreate that cross now that I have an actual house.

The Gear:

From Seedsman their Blue Dream picture looks like this:
1645920149511.png

From Premium Seed Market their Blue Dream Picture looks like this :

1645920294108.png

From looking at the seeds themselves I believe Seedsman will favor Sativa style plants. It's a guess as the seeds are smaller than Premium Seed Market.
That is a guess so we shall see.

The Goal :
Since I do not have that Blue Dream cut lo these 10 years later, I will be making my cross(s) with these two.
I will also cross these two (Seedsman and Premium) together into Fem x Fem Seedsman x Premium for a third choice.

To repeat what I did before I will be making a Fem x Fem of each with a female of my medical strain. Lucky I believe I have an S1. Those F1s were 10 years old and I feel I got lucky. Thank the Cannabis gods.

Once I have that gear of all feminized I will grow that gear out and hit them with two "my medical strain" males. One tall and one regular.

I'll be evaluating the Feminized crosses as well.

That's the goal.
=======================================

So to get started I went with a Zenny 2 x 4 tent and with the help of these wonderful people on this site I am growing under a Mars Hydro TS3000

Seeds are in the pots and away we go.

I welcome conversation. If you know a thing or two about Blue Dream please share.
I ask that you do not Spam or harass.
I'm always open to learning more about Organic Soil as well.

And now my Rig.

Mars_Hydro_Gear.jpgSetup_with_seed_mat.jpgBeans_in_color_coded.jpg

Unboxing the Mars Hydro it comes with a wood cross bar which is perfectly long and has Styrofoam ends that sit right on the bars of the tent. Just perfect so I mounted the ballasts/drivers and the controller to that wood board.

The heat mat sensor is in the beer can.
I have it set to 78 F

Okay Day 0 is February 26 2022 and lets see what these beans do.

Good luck dude!!!!!!!!! Love to see us "older" guys enjoying the "new" technology. Things have come a LONG way since my last indoor grow, been outdoors for what seems like forever, just opened up my indoor space for the 1st time in over 12 years, and got a whole slew of youngins going.
Hope the crosses work good and you find what your looking for.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well germination wasn't the best.
I went back and replanted more seeds when solo seed failed to germinate.
I had some squash or other seeds sprout from the compost in one cup. Three of them in one pot WTF?

So now I do have seedlings in each cup.
I will have to cull the extras.
Since I plan to do a Fem X Fem of these two different breeders I'll have that hybrid Feminized to hang onto.
Again I plan to do a cross of a Feminized "My Medical Strain (MMS)" and these two strains of Blue Dream to reproduce a result I had from a previous experiment of a Blue Dream cut with a Feminize MMS.
Once I have those seeds I will then make regulars with the two MMS Males I am hanging onto in clone.
I'm considering just skipping the Feminized step but I think I'll do that step just to recreate what I did before.

So, things have gone slowly but I have 6 seedlings. It's just that I have to kill the extras in each cup. I hate that idea but you have to do what you have to do.

Okay

Today I placed these Six Selected Seedlings into their five gallon homes.

I don't know if I have the light too close at 40% so if anyone has suggestions.

I noticed that at 30% they grew a little slow but then again they are subject to indoor/outdoor ambient temperatures as the window is cracked open a bit. I also have guinea pigs in that room and oh boy is fresh air the right thing~! I upped that to 40% and I noticed more leaf growth.

Seedlings_in_5Gal.jpg

I am crafting my compost based on their soiled hay bedding. Great little poopers and pee-ers they are but to get some density in the hay to make it a quality harvest well, they get to smelling a bit strong so open window it is. They appreciate it too.

I am trying a soil and bedding mix in those five gallon pots so I'll see how that goes.

I will be cloning the clones of MMS as they have grown too large. I put them in the big room and will flower them without up-potting them so those three gallon pots will get more liquid feeding than usual for my program.

I decided to add making feminized between my two different female MMS as well. I have the plants to do it with so why not.

To get all this breeding done I have a third Zeny and a second MarsHydro SP3000 ready to set up.

I see that I have four crosses at least to do. I can use the extra space.
Once I have all the feminized gear then it will be time to hit those with the MMS males.
I sure hop I can keep it all straight. The most important thing here is to have options and make the most of what I'm working with in the here and now.

And so the seasons change. It's nice to have the privilege to grow my own.

Yes, move that light up quick! Give it at least 2 feet for now. Good luck!
Okay.. Thanks.

As I said I'm using the MarsHydro SP3000 as my second LED ever. My First was made 15 years ago and is more a mood light then a grow light but those were the really early days of LEDs and it wasn't the $3000 kind that's for sure.
I still have it actually. I've grown seedlings under it a few times. It's about 1 foot by 1 foot and has those huge LEDs

Well: UPDATE

It seems the warmer temperatures agree with these Blue Dreams.

It would seem the Oregon Seeds Blue Dream likes it warmer for Germination and Early growth. West Coast seeds would warm up quick on the Left Coast. Interesting thing to remember when growing out the F1s. One never knows what might give clues when growing out the F1s
The Seedsman Blue Dream took to the cooler soil and ambient temperatures earlier and look hardy. That also is a trait to look for in growing out the F1s.

If all goes well today the Clone King will be here. I will rescue the "My Medical Strain" clone-genetics that have grown too big and must be re-cloned for size. With a little luck I can time the growth of the new clones of "My Medical Strain" with the Blue Dream.

Now there was one of the Oregon seedlings that may have not liked the light intensity and or simply was waiting until it was happy with it's environment.
I didn't have a sprout in that pot so I ended up making a new finger hole thus displacing two seeds already in the soil so I could plant more because nothing had sprouted. I did get a sprout and it just didn't grow as the others did. However, It turned out that it seems the Oregon genetics waited for the temperature to be what they liked in my opinion. I see two sprouts that were displaced that have decided to join the grow-show. I am reminded of Bob Marley and the Lyrics of "Three Little Birds." So I shall not kill them and I will let them grow. We will see how that turn of events works out.

To get this project done there are now three 2X4 tents each with a MarsHydro SP3000 in the Guinea Pig Room.
So one of each line in their own tent. One tent will have the pollen of a forced female from the Blue Line of MMS and the other will have the other forced pollen f the Yellow line of MMS. The reason for this is to attempt to recreate a cross I made as a tester cross over a decade ago. Those were the very early grow-days for me and in it all happened in very humble abode conditions. The result of that cross was really nice and I only had sample amounts of bud from that experiment. Due to climate related issues I gave up on running my 1k HPS in such a small space out of safety concerns. However, today is a new day.

In the third tent I will force both Blue dream females to produce pollen and I hope to carefully cross pollinate Oregon to Seedsman and Seedsman to Oregon. I may be growing out those feminized for a hybrid mother. It will be tricky in trying to not self pollinate either so that I feel confident I can examine what each Blue Dream produced. One never knows what may be recessive or not when working with genetics that the breeder doesn't know the history of each line. In the least there should be a hybrid Blue Dream in it. Maybe I should make a clone for each just to be careful.

That's the plan. Fun and exciting.
I did find my copy of "The Cannabis Breeder's Bible by Greg Green ISBN 1-931160-27-9 and now is the time to really sit down an re-read it. I see I have read it perhaps a decade ago because of the dogear pages but I only remember the basics.

Anyway. Here are the Blue Dreams' now that the weather is warmer on average.
There is nothing "nice" to show about the state of the MMS clones right now so later on that one. Fingers crossed I can salvage "Clones Grown Wild."

It should work out.

In the near future I can and will be using a small portable AC in that room not just for the plants but because I have Guinea Pigs in that room as well. It will be stressful for those Guinea Pigs as that room gets hot in the Summer. They need to be cared for. So two birds with one stone.

If ONLY I had some "Regular Blue Dream Seeds." Oh wait there ARE regular Blue Dream seeds.
I suppose then I can make my crosses and then breed them with a third genetic offering but of the Male Blue Dream variety.
So I can have four Blue Dream crosses. Two with MMS and two with Oregon and Seedsman ( one each ) all to a third Blue Dream daddy or two
Interesting thing! and Regulars to boot.

I could see about a Hybrid Blue Dream then between the Oregon and the Seedsman. I can have those new strains of MMS and Blue Dream(s).

Yep time to reread that Cannabis Breeders Bible.

First off Happy 420 to you!

Tis a week later and on this High Holiday I thought to update.
They are doing well in the ambient spring temperatures.

As I wrote before SeedsMan took to the cooler soil and cooler Ambient better.
So all eyes are on the "Three Little Birds." The Oregon genetics who like their germination conditions on the warmer side. I can say that it isn't a case of they didn't germinate it is a case of waiting until they want to germinate.
These are things to take note of for breeding notes. I may be able to spot the ones that are good at germinating in the cooler weather meaning they might be more Illinois than Oregon. The goal will be to find the ones that have the best qualities for the environs of Southern Illinois. This will be the "Illinois Blue Dream" strain is it all works out.
I figure it will take a few years to get to that point. I'll need to sample each and that means a grow season or two to find the qualities I like. I favor the medical benefits and as I also wrote before someplace I am interested in the cross between my medical strain and Blue Dream for the "Empathic benefits" I remember. People on the Spectrum need help with such things from time to time.

So, here they are. The tallest is the Seedsman Blue Dream. It was adapted to the cooler weather and it grew well so there is the prize for hardy growth in cooler soil and it also withstood the intense light of my placement of the LED which I have never used before. The LED is all the way to the top now and they seem fine with it there so lesson learned. Yet it has become a happy-accident in learning who can stand it and who loved it. So another trait to keep track of.

The Oregon strain seems happy now and looks to be growing well. The Three little (Oregon) birds are looking to get in some vigorous catch-up growing so that race is on.

On the nutrient front. This is a hand mixed soil with some basic organic off the shelf stuff like organic 4-4-4 and Kelp meal. In this some recycled compost went in too. There would be Azomite and Green-Sand in that legacy.

I am trying out the Guinea Pig manure tea aspect. I have a pot with air-stones going and in that. I have added a little 4-4-4 and a little kelp meal along with oyster shell flour. Also I am trying out a little organic liquid I saw and thought might be okay. Not much just a little in that five gallon pot.

All in All there is nothing exotic in what they are being fed. The main benefit of the Manure Tea is the microbes. They are a hotshot for the soil.

So here they are on their first and only 420 holiday.

Okay, it is such a wonderful day and I am having fun with the Gardening interest. I am after all a "Craft Grower for Medical use."

My observations so far are that Seedsman (Back-Left and Tall) is the winner for germinating in cooler soil and thus germinating early in the season (if outdoors or in the cold indoors).
The "Oregon genetics" are more a warm soil clan. They waited for the conditions to be favorable for them so there is that trait.

The picture shows the tallest before I lopped off the top. I need seeders not Cola-Monster this time out. I need them to grow in a tent.
Being early and tall is a goodly thing but I just have to make note and chop-top.

Now as for Stem rubs. The winner is "Oregon-Genetics" for being "Spicy."
Seedsman is a bit on the plain-sweet side.

Here is where I could use some input from you. What is Blue Dream Stem-Rub supposed to be like? Sweet and a bit plain or spicy?

Okay. The goal here is to take a shortcut and feminize-breed the two strains with my medical strain (MMS)
It has expanded to making a hybrid feminized cross between these two genetics. So, the goal is seeds!

No "just" bud this time out.

Here they are on this beautiful Illinois Day!

How there are going so far.jpg
