I'd have your RO water tested to see if you need the deionization filter. Those are pretty hardcore in removing minerals that the plants need. I personally switched mine out for a carbon filter after trying it. I also noticed for some reason Potassium Silicate reacted much more intensely in the deionized RO vs carbon scrubbed RO.

When the water leaves the ro unit for the resin the tds is only at 4 so all it does it take out that so in a way your right you really don’t need it. I got it though because the 4 stage and 5 stage were the same exact price so why not lol
